Hello there. Approximately a week after updating my Moto G5 Plus from Android 7 to Android 8.1, I have been getting an error message saying "Invalid SIM Card" on my device. I have tried restarting, shuttng the power off and on, and removing the SIM card and reinsertting it, but I still get the same error message. Please help me out as I can not receive calls or text messages due to this error.

First, I apologize for my bad English
Hallo, I have the following problem:
after the update 7.1 to 8.1 on my Moto g5, I see in the hands-free of my comand online (mercedes) sim1 and not the mobile operator.
In settings / network / SIM_Karte / SIM1 I see mobile operators "unknown".
Telephoning works, as does the Internet.
'Recovery' from the Boot Mode Selection Menu was also unsuccessful.
According to mobile operators, there are no compatibility issues with the SIM card and Android 8.1
Mercedes also has no problems with the new Bluetooth in Android 8.1.
Who can help?
Does somebody has any idea?

Thanks for the suggestion. I just did a reset of the network, rebooted my device and still get the same Invalid SIM Card message.

Sometimes booting in and out of Safemode like on a PC can work to clear these things.

What I can tell you is that not only with MotoPhones but other Android phones I've had after an O/S update I've had to backup my phone/s and do a Factory restore/reset and this clean installs the updates instead of it just replacing the present O/S if wiping the Cache Partition doesn't work,
PITB (Pain In the bum)but sometimes has to be done

Once again, thanks for the suggestion. I did a factory reset and I'm in the middle of restoring the apps I had backed up to the cloud. I noticed I once again received the Invalid SIM Card error a few minutes after the phone briefly connected to my mobile network.

Darn.It seems a bit unlikely that a software update would damage a Sim-Card but I suppose it could happen.

For anyone that cares, I solved this issue by contacting my service provider and undergoing some tech support. Please dismiss my initial message as nothing else is needed to sovle my inital issue.
