or WAIT! maybe they want to add a perfectly cut adhesive inside the box from now on

Covering the noise cancelling microphone would make for terrible calls, at least for the person you are trying to talkk to.

Most likely there's a problems in the water seal around the mic that's letting dust in. Probably water too.
Could be missing, not installed correctly, or manufactured wrong. Probably more reasons not comming to mind.

So the solution is to fix the seal, and to do that you have to open the phone to get to the bad seal and replace it.

What is incoherent?

Incoherent = Illogical, thats all

I know the definition. Nothing in my post was incohernet.

There is zero reason to replace the device with a new one if it can be fixed.
And I certainly wouldn't want some random refurbuished device (which was repaird ahead of time) to replace a brand new one.

No manufacturer of repairable product is going to replace it if repair is more cost effective.

As a customer of a phone where the flaw has been determined within 2 weeks of purchase, am I not entitled to a new, fresh phone from the plant with the problem completely solved?

No, you are not entitled to a replacement. The warranty covers repairs.
They could replace with a refurbished device if they determine it's more cost effective, but unlikely that they would replace with brand new.

Wouldn't it be better if the phones were to come from the manufacturing plant with the "sealant" problem solved, after having passed through all the quality checks? Why do we have to play the quality department here? That's the manufacturers' job.

First it's not probably not a sealant issue, but a formed/moulded rubber seal that gets installed around the openings on the device. If you watch the tear down videos you'll see there are several such seals.

They are just loosing the adhesive that holds the screen assembly in the frame.
They would remove all the old adhesive and apply new adhesive just like they do during manufacturing.
I expect it's a precut piece that gets used.

I've worked on several phones where the glass/digitizer/display is assembled in a similar manner and you can usually get the precut adhesive panels. They fit perfect and when properly installed are as good as the factory assembly. In fact, they may even be better as the repairer may do a better job/pay more attention than the assembly line workers.

Prove it.

This isnt the first phone I have owned with a defect. The problem is not caused by me. I am entitled to a replacement. Customers are entitled to a replacement. How do I know? Because I have gotten it done. And it is a logical demand. Cost effectiveness is not my concern. I need a 100% working phone, not a repair work piece.

It is not the repair work or the assembly line workers that bother me. It is the quality check and foolproofing that happens in the factory, which is obviously not going to happen in the service centre. With motorola aware of the problem, and the quality department having failed previously, they now will be informed of the issue and how to check it. The service centre guys canperform those quality checks? I vote "no", because they obviously don't have the equipment that the factory has.

Let it come foolproof from the factoryu after all the checks. Last thing I want is the problem to resurface, and me not being able to return the phone because it is long past any date where the denial letter woulr work.

I had thought the same but no, I compared and verified that the audio quality does not change significantly

Interesting. I know people have had problems in the past with cases that don't properly expose the noise cancelling mic.

Read the warranty. They have the discression to repair or replace, and replace with new or refurbushed. Only time I've seen new is when they don't yet have refurbuished devices to replace with, generally when the product is new to the market. On this case I doubt they even have new ones that don't have the same defect.

If you want brand new, return the defective one and buy another once new ones w/o the issue are on the shelf.

As for QC at the factiry, you are mistaken if you think they do more than very basic functionality like power on, display, and maybe the touch screen. The repair center is likely to do a far more deatailed/in-depth check of a repaired device.

I doubt any new QC checks would be implememted, and even if they are it'd be for the next run. They probably did a big initial run and aren't actually making more yet.
