G5S - SD card reported as unsupported after swap from another G5S

2020-02-14, 14:54 PM

I have moved my SD card from one G5S to another G5S. It worked perfectly okay in the first phone, but in the 2nd its reporting as unsupported. If I put it back in the other phone it's fine. Is it not possible to move the card from one phone to another without reformatting?

NOT POSSIBLE on any Android phone if you formatted the card as internal memory! Only works when set up for external (portable) memory.

As Karl says once an SD card is formatted as,"Internal" it's bascially locked/encypted to the phone it was formatted on. Although taking the SD card out does not always damage the Data on it there's a good chance that it will. If you want the Data off the Card put it back in the original phone and copy the data to another device. Then put the Card in the new Device and format it as Internal on the phone and copy the Data back to it.

HTH :)

Better yet, after you recover the desired information from the SD card, using the original phone, reformat the card as EXTERNAL (portable) memory on that same phone so it will NOT be encrypted.  Then you can read and write data on the card with either phone, or to and from a digital device.

This helped me too

Thanks for the replies. I wondered if that was the case. Already cleared the data off it so not a problem.
