  1. Depressing, isn't it?

Unbelievable incompetence so far as communication is concerned - the sort of thing that one might expect of a company that has nothing to do with the "communication" industry.

Yes, truly. They seem to be evolving backwards.

I am not a stickler for even getting an update... I could very well have managed with the existing software, but this obscene display of broken promises being defened with impunity using pseudo-legal speak is getting on my nerves. If it was like the Orvellian 1984, Motorola would probably hold the patent to Newspeak and double-speak as well.

There is a Sanskrit proverb that aptly fits this situation: Vināshkāle Vipareetbuddhi - When the time of destruction has come, one thinks and acts foolishly/negatively.

Motorola could have put its statement in clear words, that a layman would understand, yet they chose ambiguity and made everyone on this forum suffer the flood of recent nonsense. Just let the hugely inflated corporate ego lose this round.

Oh man how I would love to work at a company where there are no deadlines, no goals when you are working on a project like a new android version for a phone. And you can just run arround the office al day with a finger up your nose and say you are working hard on the update. Got any job openings?

Seriously moto market will be down .

They said that they have rolled out Oreo update for moto g5 plus. still there is no update till now.

I use to rely on moto much but after moto owned by lenovo security patches and updates are very rare.

Moto sucks.

Well, that didn't go well. I didn't really think it would -- in my personal experience the only thing that satisfies is when one receives the update on one's own phone.

I urge everyone, while waiting for your update, to please follow all site rules, particularly those around language and treatment of moderators and agents.

Wishing everyone the best and a quick update.

You seem to have learned nothing through all this.

When you suggest that people should bear in mind the "treatment of moderators and agents" has it ever occured to you that the same should apply to the behaviour of the salaried "moderators and agents" towards paying customers?

It's because we have nothing to add. The update is rolling out in phrases. The first phase is a limited "soak" that allows us to see the software's performance on a larger number of phones than we can test internally. The software team controls how quickly or slowly we exit the soak phase and the rate of expansion of distribution. It was our hope that letting the members on this thread know that the soak phase had started would satisfy at least some owners and let them relax with the understanding that the update was on its way.

Let me draw a parallel here.

1. Apple announced last week that its iOS 12 update will be available as a general release on Sep 17. Today at

Now, go compare that to Samsung's release of Oreo for the Galaxy S8, nearly all based on leaks from the test program, not official announcements.

  • November 2, 2017 – International: Samsung kicks off the Android 8.0 Oreo beta programfor Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus.
  • November 10, 2017 – International: Samsung is rolling out the second Oreo beta firmware starting in the UK.
  • November 15, 2017 – United States: Second beta pulled in US due to major network bug.
  • November 23, 2017 – International: Samsung is rolling out the third Android 8.0 Oreo beta for the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus.
  • December 14, 2017 – International: Samsung rolls out fourth Oreo beta for the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus.
  • January 19, 2018 – International: PSA: Smart Switch wiping data on Galaxy S8, S8 Plus for Oreo beta users.
  • January 25, 2018 – US: Samsung has revealed that the Android 8.0 Oreo beta testing program for the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus will end on Friday, Jan. 26 in the US.
  • February 2, 2018 – T-Mobile US: T-Mobile is now testing Android Oreo for the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus—the last step before the update’s full deployment.
  • March 1, 2018 – International: Here’s the changelog for the Galaxy S8 Oreo update
  • March 12, 2018 – Canada Unlocked: Samsung Canada revealed it would start rolling out the Oreo update from March 19, 2018.
  • March 16, 2018 – UK: The Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus in the U.K. are now receiving their Android 8.0 Oreo updates.
  • March 16, 2018 – Verizon US: Verizon is rolling out Oreo to its Galaxy S8 devices.
  • March 19, 2018 – Sprint, T-Mobile US: Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus devices on Sprint and T-Mobile are now receiving their Android 8.0 Oreo updates.
  • March 20, 2018 – Canada: Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus users in Canada are also now receiving the Oreo update on Bell, Fido, Freedom Mobile, Rogers, Telus, Videotron, and Virgin Mobile.
  • March 20, 2018 – AT&T US: AT&T is rolling out the Android 8.0 Oreo update to the Galaxy S8.
  • March 21, 2018 – AT&T US: According to one Android Authority reader, AT&T is now rolling out Android Oreo to the Galaxy S8 Plus.
  • April 4, 2018 – Unlocked US: Android Oreo is rolling out to unlocked Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus devices in the US.
  • April 13, 2018 – China: The Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus got bumped up to Android 8.0 Oreo in China.
  • May 15, 2018 – U.S. Cellular: The carrier starts rolling out the Oreo update to the Galaxy S8 duo.

So Apple has it pretty together but that is not the norm for cellphones.
GS8/8+ had 7 test releases, the last 3 in one month. And it still took 7+ weeks to be released to the US general public (2 weeks extra for the carrier unlocked versions). Oh, and there was a stop during the early international release (the one that started on 1 March).
https://www.sammobile.com/news/samsung-reveals-why-it-stopped-the-galaxy-s8-android-oreo-release/

Not to mention all the problems that they've had since the full release. Random reboots, app crashes, etc.

I thought Tom's words were quite clear, people just read what they wanted it to say (full release) instead of what it actually said. Then Matt muddied the waters using the word "soak" with it's association with the closed testing program.

Again, I'd certainly prefer clearer communication more often. And I expect Tom has be hammered for even posting what he did (yet I'm sure it was approved proir to being posted).
