Hello Admins I have a Moto G5 Plus bought from Amazon in New Delhi India region and still did not receive Oreo OTA update? Is that not normal as most of the users have received it? Can you please check or guide me?

Thank you!

That's how they were able to stay 32-bit rather than going to the 64-bit Oreo kernel. My guess is it was less work to patch Nougat than start over with the Oreo 4.x kernel.

No, 32/64 bit is not a compiler issue.

I've heard Pixel ROMs use the same compiler (but haven't verified it)

So my first thought is that's the compiler Google recomended.

The main reason they stayed 32bit is so full wipe isn't required for update. I don't think Google allows an OTA update like that.

Same with the api. Motorola hasn't enabled it on budget devices before, why do you think they would now? You could re-enable it with root, and many did on N.

As for camera apps, one is provided. That's what they support. No surprise that GCam doesn't work out of the box. But there are 32bit versions and like on N, you can make it work with some effort.

That is incorrect, the G5s Plus does have camera2API enabled by default. Also, 32 bit GCam apks (which have HDR+ and RAW capture support) work flawlessly on stock ROM.

Then why was the poster complaining about GCam? I don't use it or want too.

But I have seen mention of 32bit versions and of enabling the new API on devices where it is disabled.

Don't worry

As update is distributed among IMEI no. That's why ur IMEI number is not come first in the list.

I don't claim to be an authority on the use of current compilers but surely address range checking would be important here?  Perhaps this is effectively handled with a 32/64 bit address range checking switch?

The full wipe issue would be easy enough to handle if it were possible to carry out a full backup and selective restore with Android - albeit in an ideal (imaginary) world.

  1. On what do you base that assertion?
  2. Do you seriously believe that Lenovo are ever going to investigate an "issue" on an individual mobile?
