Removing unwanted apps that don't list as un-installable

2021-06-05, 0:00 AM

I have a moto g5s model XT1797 running Android 8.1.0 last patched 1 Aug 2019: the latter periodically checked but it seems google only supports a version for 18 months after purchase.

I keep getting unused app notices: remove to free up memory space. And most of the time when trying to remove them, I can't.  In the system apps space, the ones that are removable have an uninstall button, whereas the the ones that simply are not - apparently - removable are listed as one of the following:  disable, or disabled. The latter include a social media program I don't like and at least 4 asian keyboard items I will never ever use.  At first glance, about 500Mb of memory used with these, and all of these un-installables appear to be programs that were pre-loaded with the phone.

So, how can I un-install those programs that don't want to go?

David

Hi,

Thanks for the reply, even tho it's not what I wanted to hear.  The memory status of the phone is about 24% used, with an extra 32gb micro memory installed, and my data is mostly music is spread between the internal and extra memory by type (classical vs military).  I get notices about large files too, but I do use those.  I regularly use cleaners to remove the unwanted stuff, but that unused apps notice just keeps popping up. V irritating. Yes, they are unused because I don't want them.  Why motorola would grant that sort of cannot-get-rid-of-me status to pre-loaded non OS apps doesn't make a lot of sense, unless there is an ongoing fee for it.  And meanwhile the user bitches.

Hi Davidk13,

Thanks for writing to us and we would like to help. Apps that are pre-loaded on the phone cannot be uninstalled only disabled. You can clear the cache and app/data of the apps but it will clear only a small amount of memory if you are not using it often. To clear the cache and app data go to Settings > Apps > (App Name) > Storage > Clear Cached and clear app data. Please do note when clearing the cache and app data you will be log out of the app if you have an account logged in there. Do you have an SD card on your phone? If you have, try moving some of your pictures, ringtone, or other downloaded files there.

Best regards,
Zeke
