Ringbell becomes silent autonomously - Lots of missed calls!

Hi,

in the last couple of months my G5s has started an odd behaviour: the phone 'decides'  to become silent autonomously and in a strange way. The phone buzzes instead of ringing or any other notification sound. When I go and check the volume scale I see a crossed bell symbol, NOT the silent phone symbol. This may happen in whatever bell position along the volume scale. Of course I had not engaged the Do not disturb or the Silent phone options in thos cases. Then if I press the volume UP button on the phone side the bell moves one step up and the cross disappears. But it may happen again anytime.

The silence (lack of volume) affects all kinds of notifications: incoming calls and all apps.

Please give support.

Re: Ringbell becomes silent autonomously - Lots of missed calls!

Thanks Nikh.

One question: should I apply all the four points in sequence, or should I try them separately, one at a time and see what happens?

The 'silent bell' screenshot is attached.

Re: Ringbell becomes silent autonomously - Lots of missed calls!

Hi carlopipitone,

I'd suggest you reboot your device in Safe Mode. This is to test if any of the third-party apps installed on your phone is misbehaving and causing the issue. If you don't experience the issue while in Safe Mode that's a good indication that a third-party app is a source of the issue.

Thanks & Regards

Re: Ringbell becomes silent autonomously - Lots of missed calls!

Nikh,
yesterday afternoon I applied point 2:
Reset app preferences>>Reset apps,
and the phone is working fine. No more 'silent volume' issue ever since.
Now I need to undertsand which app is causing the malfunctionig.
Should I apply the safe mode reboot now ?
--Carlo

EDIT: I have just rebooted the phone is safe mode. I'll wait and see.

Hi carlopipitone,

We are glad to see the progress. Please observe if you come across the same issue again please check in the Safe Mode & try uninstalling the suspicious apps one by one so that you will get to know easily.

Thanks & Regards

Re: Ringbell becomes silent autonomously - Lots of missed calls!

After rebooting in Safe mode the 'muted volume' issue did not show again.
Then I rebooted the phone normally, and it seems that everything is working fine.
Probably the 'app reset' was enough to fix the problem.
I only had to reinstall Whatsapp because it didn't work well after the reset.
Thanks.
