Corrupted JPG images G6

2018-10-22, 17:57 PM

Hello all

I have a Motorola G6 that I recently got. A few days ago, I noticed that the images were being saved in the cellphone instead of the SD chip. So I had the phone move the pictures there. Before doing that I formatted the chip in order for everything to go fine. But after I moved the images, practically all of them became corrupted. I cannot describe my shock upon seeing this! I had really precious pictures. I would really like some feedback. My computer can't open the pics and I've tried several image editors to no avail.

Can anyone give me some advice, please?

Thank you.

1. Was it a new SD card that was used?

2. Did you format it inside the phone before moving the files, vs formatting it on a PC? That's the best way to ensure that files moved from internal storage to Micro SD don't end up corrupted.

3. Did you also back up the photos on another device (tablet, PC, external HD, cloud/internet storage)? Lately I'm happy with Google Photos backing up my photos when my G6 is on WiFi. It's saved me a few times recently!

Hi daffyducknj

Thanks for your response.

It's a SanDisk 32gb. I formatted it inside the phone. Alas I did not back up the images in the cloud.

Ah, yes

As a last effort, I tried opening a good image and one of the corrupted ones in Text Edit on my mac so I could see the code. I had this stupid idea that I could copy the header code from the good image to the corrupted one and maybe...just maybe be able to open it regularly. But when I opened the corrupted image on TextEdit I saw that the image only had millions of UUUUUUUUUUU as code. Nothing else. I checked some of the other corrupted ones....same thing there. I tend to thing the phone did an error when writing the images onto the SD card.

It's not the phone's fault only yours. The SD card was probably previously formatted FAT32 and you did a quick format on the exFAT phone. Before you start using it, perform the full format of this SD card using the program:

https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4/

Do not format this card on your phone.

If it does not help, it means that this SD card is damaged.

Thanks Kemoti

I'll try it. But this will not bring the dead I'm afraid (refering to the corrupted images). I've downloaded the program.
