Is the Pie 9 system update the same things as "Security update"?

2020-01-20, 3:57 AM

Just curious... in "System updates" I'm seeing "Security update available new version OPSS27.104-92-2. Android security updates up to 1 November 2018." It says nothing about Android Pie 9, but is this the Pie 9 update?

Hi Ballyshannon,

Thanks for posting! We have already rolled out Android Pie for the Moto G6 series. If you haven't received it, I would suggest you update it through LMSA

Suman

Thanks Suman, and from your response to my question, I'm guessing the Security Update is in fact NOT the Android Pie update? I know the Pie update is available but I won't be installing it due to the myriad of post-update issues I've been reading about here on the forum, and my G6 is working just fine with Oreo 8. I still want to know if the update referred to as "Security update" that's available in Settings/System/System updates is the Android Pie update or not..which was my original question. Thanks.

Hi Ballyshannon,

A The security Patch update is a set of changes that includes, bug fixes, improvements (improving functionality, usability or performance). Android Pie (codenamed Android P during development) is the ninth major release of the Android device operating system. Both are two different things.

Regards,

Suman

Please also understand that the updates are sequential, so if you deliberately reject one, you generally won't recieve any later security patches.  Security patches are applied only to the most recent previous update.

I'm fine with that. I'd much rather have a working phone than not, and it's all too well documented how these updates are compromising our investments, and in many cases, competely disabling phones. What good is a 'security patch' if after installation it renders a phone ueless, with nothing to 'secure'...due to the 'security' patch' or system update??!! No thanks.
