Media Library Status Update Issue with G6?

2018-06-12, 9:33 AM

I've been using my G6 for a few weeks and mostly love it ... one issue I have is that the app I use to listen to music from the SD card (GoneMAD) relies on the OS broadcasting changes to the media library when new files are added, it then triggers a library scan to update the tracks available to the app.

I have this app installed on 4 other android devices (including one running 8.0) and this 'service' runs flawlessly ... it doesn’t work on the G6 and I have to manually scan from the app every time I add new tracks.

It’s not a huge pain ... but it’s not right!

Anything I can try / check?

Hi mjm2705,

Could you try this, Go to settings > apps & notification > app info > GoneMad music player > clear data/cache and reboot your device. Also, have you got in touch with the app developer? If yes what did they say?

Thanks,

Swaraj

Verify if your app was given Storage permissions.

Settings > Apps & notifications  > App info > All apps > GoneMAD > Permissions > Storage [ON]

Data / Cache cleared ... which removed all preferences that I''ll need to setup again!  :smileyfrustrated:

Only autoscan setting selected is "Sync With Andoid Media Library" (as with my other devices)

New files copied to SD card.

GoneMAD does not see the files (as it would on other devices)

Manual scan run ... tracks appear in GoneMAD!

I had contacted the developer and the response was:

"has to be a g6 thing. I have a few devices that work fine on oreo. If the g6 is not broadcasting media library updates, gmmp would have no way to know when there were changes. You could use one of the timed scans, or just manual scan"

Could you make sure if the all the permissions are granted and then go to settings > accounts > select the app > make sure the sync is "on"

Let us know if that makes any difference.

Thanks,

Swaraj

The app has Phone & Storage permission enabled (only options available).

Not sure what settings you refer to under Settings > Accounts, Under Settings > Users & accounts the app is not listed.  I have a Samsung Galaxy S7 sitting beside the G6 and the app isn't listed in Accounts there either and the auto update is working fine on that.

Hi mjm2705,

Thanks for trying, it looks like the sync is performed on an hourly basis as an option to be selected under the scanner.

Follow this: Locate "Gone mad" app > three dots > settings > scanner > other > setup auto scan > (make sure all the box are ticked > go to setup auto scan > select "every hour" > reboot your device-- hope this helps.

Also, please understand that we are unable to replicate the issue you are referring, as mentioned above steps I am able to sync my files automatically.

Thanks,
Swaraj

Hi

This doesn't resolve my issue though, it just replicates the work around that I have already tried.

The timed autoscan you describe works for me but I don't like it.

On the 4 other devices I have the app installed on, I don't need to use auto-scan at all, I just have the "Sync With Android Media Library" option ticked and the app detects any changes and adds to the available files.  (see attached)

For some reason, the Moto G6 doesnt seem to behave the same way my other devices do!

I'll stick to manual scanning as I won't want to wait an hour from adding files to listening to them and I'm sure a regular scan uses battery.

Dissapointing resolution.
