I'll add to the "DO NOT UPGRADE" crowd, unfortunately the new version seems poorly optimized and the phone will become laggy, factory reset doesn't solve it, sadly you cannot downgrade to 8.0 because if you could I'd do it immediatly.

I vote for not to upgrade, in my case i have moto g6 play and:

The bad things: after the update my GPS work when he want, sometimes work fine, sometimes is dead and i use it a lot;  miss the transparent Theme and the new brightness is weird, min - max are both so much lower than before ( in oreo i used around 30%, in pie to have the same brightness need to use 60%)

The good things: battery improvement and the phone run smoothly just like before the update.

"max are both so much lower than before"

Are you saying you cannot the same brightness as before, or is it just the range that has changed.

If the brightness is reduced that is a big no no

The range changed, how i said, the new minimum is lower than before and the new maximum is lower too, the new(Pie) brightness at  100% is lower than the old(Oreo) brightness at 100%

Thankyou all so far for the informations. Facing the answers i decided not to upgrade to Android 9 pie yet. At least i will wait until one heavy update comes out.

Every additional information is welcome in this thread. Thanks!

Yeah, this is disturbing, I will most surely avoid this update when it is released in the US.

Hello Moto Community,

Proud owner of moto g4 play until was stolen :(

I own G6 play for almost a month now. Worked perfectly out of the box. All good until the android 9.0 upgrade.

Cons

Dolby prompt choice is disabled for phone speaker and its always on. The result is very annoying. The speaker is really loud even at the lowest level while the dolby micro settings have been replaced with just three settings, smart, music & movies.

Screen brightness, disappointment. You don't actually have progressive light increase/decrease as in 8.0 but a stepping change which does not gives you full control. The result is very poor light performance in the low settings.

Stay out of Android 9.0 pie until it gets better

Overall is a very good phone

I upgraded on the two phones I have and regret it.

Cast to device has stopped working on both.

Some apps crash now.

No WiFi calling.

And there is some memory leak because when you log on with fingerprint, the screen pixels get disturbed.

Please get it fixed.

Do not update! Stay with Oreo which is much better than you will get with the current Pie experience. A really bad quality release from Moto. I have BT and GPS issues (see other forum posts) and sometimes speaker crackling issues. Did a full erase and installed all apps from scratch but not much different.

Avoid the update until the faults are fixed. This is apalling software QA from Motorola.
