Re: Moto G6 slow on android P

2019-07-10, 12:52 PM

5 months on and still not fixed! Sorry to say this is probably the last Moto phone I'm going to get. My wife has an iPhone 5S and it just received an update to the latest iOS for Goodness sake, how hard can it be?!

It seems Motoroal have no intention of fixing the legacy phones. Typical attiutude from a Chinese company.

I've managed to get my device almost back to it's original performance by:
1) using Nova for the launcher
2) disabling notifications from EVERY moto app
3) setting both options in Settings --> System --> Advanced --> Motorola Privacy to off and
4) setting Force GPU Rendering in Developer options
and now the 'phone is quite usable again! Someone else reported success using LineageOS and I can well believe it. I'm surprised any of the Moto s/w/ even made it out on to the production lines!

I am not sure who is asking you to flash your device. But in troubleshooting post update performance issues there are a few things to do:

1. safe mode - assuming you tried this

2. Reset and test BEFORE you install or restore ANY applications

3. If neither of the above helps, you can try using the lenovo/moto tool to reinstall the os: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds101291

4. If all that fails, then service is the next step.

None of the above steps will void your warranty.

I'm not sure who advised you to flash your phone (I will look into that). However, I would wait before performing any sort of factory reset or reloading of the software. We are aware that some users are reporting sluggish performance with the launcher after updating to Android Pie. I can confirm that we will have improvements for this behavior in a future software update.

I did look into the case and the agent referred you to use LMSA (Lenovo Moto Smart Assistant) and advised that it wouldn't void your warranty. The tool is an approved application for flashing (upgrading/reloading) software on a phone. You can learn more about LMSA here: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht102605. That being said, as I mentioned in a previous post, we will have a future update on your phone that will have improvements for the behavior your seeing on your device. There is no need, at this point, to use LMSA to reload the software on your device.
