Re: Question about the Android 9.0 update

2019-07-18, 12:51 PM

An alternative solution to avoid getting locked out problem is to disable your lock  before you update, turn it back on after the update. I didn't have any problems with lock screen though, even though my pin was active.

I did the update last night and despite my fears from reading this forum the phone seems to be fine, although I did a factory reset to root the phone a few hours after the update. My guess is a lot of the problems people are having with the OS update could be fixed with a factory reset, which isn't strictly a problem with Moto phones, a lot of manufacturers suggest that after an OS update.

Re: Question about the Android 9.0 update

While I have *major* concerns re: something with the celluar "radio" or antenna on the Moto g6, being fair...

...I got the Verizon Moto g6 update a couple of days ago.  So far, only 2 issues:

  • SD card was not recognized for about an hour.  Scary, since I install apps, and have app-data there.
  • One app doesn't work (so I unstalled it).  Can't remember name, but it is one of those cell-tower signal-strength apps.

Other than that, no issues after a couple of days.

The problem with the celluar "radio" or antenna (swithing somewhat arbitrarily between cell towers, LTE & 3G) *seems* a little better with Pie, but the evidence is rather anecdotal at this point (read: I'm not sure...).

Have you received the update again yet? I figured it would pop up again after a few days but still nothing.

Hi Bcm4217,

Thanks for updating your profile. I will have my colleague check this. I'll update you here.

-Just got an update. Please check the software update next week. Let me know if you'll get the update.

Hi bxwoodsbxnditBxray,

We'd like to check your phone's software build too. Can you please update your profile with current phone, carrier and serial number -- this will help me investigate. See here for the instruction. Thanks.

Best regards,
Rich

I'll check Monday and let you know if I get it or not. I spoke with someone from Motorola yesterday and he said that Google has until August 11th to push the update again. I'm not sure how often they send them out but hopefully we're not all waiting too much longer. I bet that by the 11th of next month you'll be able to update through settings-system-system update. Wishfully thinking but hey you never know.

Still no update. Why push it out if you're not able to update through system update. This makes no sense to me whatsoever. Have you figured anything out at all? I'm growing very impatient. Please help. Thank you!

Android updates come from Google, they only come once, for each update they create. Phone manufacturers modify those updates and push them whenever they want. Same with security patches, it's the phone manufacturers thing. Carriers too get involved.
