Recording stereo mic on Moto g6

2019-12-29, 0:21 AM

I searched hopelessly for info on the Moto g6 mic inputs and eventually gave up and figured it out myself, so perhaps posting my results might help someone else...?  I use the "Audio Recorder" 3rd party app for recording live audio (Icon is a Red & white mic inside a white circle).  It's easy and fairly versatile.  Anyhow, you can record at different quality levels and in mono or stereo.  So I finally realized that the best way to figure this out was to just use the stereo setting and do a test recording.  I spoke and sang while moving/rotating the phone into different positions, and here are my conclusions:

- the Stereo Right mic points out of the top edge of the phone

- the Stereo Left mic points out of the bottom edge of the phone

- the best live recording stereo results were achieved with the phone surface facing up towards the ceiling with the line defined by the axis of the top and bottom of the phone pointing, respectively, to the Right and the Left of the sound source (perpendicular), i.e. me and my beater guitar.

Success, finally!
