Unable to unlock the bootloader (Unlock Data Unavailable)

2020-05-24, 19:13 PM

So I've posted a reply in this thread, but it seems that no one replies anymore so I'm assuming that thread is dead. According to that thread, my phone should be eligible for bootloader unlock, based on data from fastboot getvar all command.

So, recently I've received an update for April 1st 2020 Security patch. The bootloader was never unlocked or re-locked before so I don't know if that's the issue here, but when I try to use fastboot oem get_unlock_data command I get this:

...

(bootloader) Unlock data:

(bootloader) Unlock data unavailable

(bootloader) Failed

OKAY [  0.052s]

finished. total time: 0.061s

According to the info from here, my device SHOULD be eligible (The CID is 0x0000)

Allow OEM unlocking and USB Debugging is enabled in Developer Options

Motorola Device Drivers, Android SDK and systemwide ADB and Fastboot are installed (I've tried using minimal, mfastboot and platform-tools provided by the SDK but all show the same)

Here is the output from fastboot getvar all command (IMEI and S/N is removed for privacy concerns)

I'm hoping this can be solved some way, because it appears that the bootloader can't be unlocked on the devices older than 3 years, and this device will hit this mark in less than a year.

Some info from the bootloader screen that might be useful:

Tools Mode Config: DISABLED

Console [NULL]: null

oem_locked

Apparently, unless you can use the official tool without any problems, you're out of luck.

Unable to unlock the bootloader (Unlock Data Unavailable)

2020-08-09, 7:01 AM
Did you enable "USB Debugging" and toggle "Allow OEM Unlock" in "Developer Options" before doing your fastboot commands? Also make sure you have installed the latest motorola drivers properly to your system. If you grab a copy of Lenovo Smart & Rescue Assistant you can find the latest Motorola ADB and Fastboot tools in C:\ProgramData\LMSA\Download\ToolFiles\Fastboot_Mot_V1

Also try using the SDK platform-tools in a linux environment.
