OK, so I had a good week or so of "OK Google" working perfectly after installing Google app version 10.49.11.21.arm... until last night when the phone installed the latest system update to PPSS29.55-37-4-3 (was previously PPS29.55-37-4) after which it stopped working again. This doesn't prove anything really though, because it may have just been the associated reboot that broke it again. 

 

Anyway a reboot this morning has fixed it again - for now...

Yesterday I get a new update to my moto g6. I can switch on Voice Match. OK Google work again :)

Hi All,

 

I have had this issue interittently where I went into the Google Assistant Voice settings and could not turn it on.  The slider would immediately slide back to off.  For me, it seems to be a conflict with Moto Voice (Beta).

 

I fixed it on my Moto G6 by disabling Moto Voice (Beta) using these steps:

Go to Settings (by swiping down from the top of the screen)

In the Search settings box, type "Voice"

Scroll down to Moto Voice (Beta) and click on it

In the App Info screen, click Disable

Reboot your phone

Open the Google app

Go to Settings/Voice/Voice Match

Toggle on Access with Voice Match

I did a factory reset again. Voice match worked until the updates were applied. Now voice match is broken again. 
This is what I get for getting a cheaper phone.

"OK Google" has been working on my G6 since I did a full factory reset.  After the last Android update it had stopped working.  All the usual suggestions including the insistance on updating apps (my apps are always up to date) were followed to no effect.  A full reset was a royal nuisance but now everything works as expected.  If I could bill Lenovo for the time I spent fixing this problem on my G6 they'd probably do a better job QAing OS updates.  Maybe.  Microsoft has gotten away with disrupting lives with updates for decades, so I guess everyone is hardened to it by now.  Sigh.  I may move to a Pixel 3A after the 4 comes out and Google drops the price (again).

For now me and my G6 soldier on.

I always keep the Google app up to date, and Carrier Services, but as for 3rd party apps like Facebook and LinkedIn etc, I tend to read the Google Play reviews before installing them, as often others will report on specific problems that have been introduced by the latest version affecting the particular model of phone - in which case I tend to skip that version and wait for the reviews to improve.

 

Can you please clarify if there is any particular reason why keeping 3rd party apps updated would have any bearing on Voice Match's reliability to stay activated?
