Re: Moto g6 upgrade to android 9 screen pin changed

I have this same problem too. Pin works fine when I first restart the phone, but not when prompted the second time and the fingerprint stage.

Hi Rich, any development? Same problem here (Italian phone, upgraded while in the UK). Thanks!

Same problem with G6 Play. Incredibly frustrating as everything else looks like its OK. Still able to access some functions via smartwatch but can't open the phone as the screenlock password has been changed/reset/whatever.

Tried clearing the cache but no change.

If it turns out the only solution is to reset the phone I might as well buy a new one - and be sure it won't be a Lenovo if that ends up being the case.

Look forward to hearing some helpful words of wisdom from the tech crew.

Hi Tom. Same problem here (Moto G6 Play, Italian SIM, upgraded while in the UK). Any more conservative solution? I'd rather buy a new phone (not Moto definitely), than resetting this. Thanks.

I had to do a factory reset on my wife's phone  as we couldn't wait any longer. It's been a week now since this issue arose tgroug hno fault of our own.

Obviously Motorola didn't factor this 'blip' into their new software update but tansparency and speed in fixing it would be of importance is my opinion.

It's unfortunate because the lack of proper support from Motorola on this topic is astonishingly bad.

On a plus the phone seems to be working fine and the access issue has gone away...a bit likethe support ...

I'm done with budget phones. Went back to flagships. Got a pixel 3 xl. I'll see what solutions they come up with and keep the g6 play as a very last last resort backup if something happens to the pixel.

Re: Moto g6 upgrade to android 9 screen pin changed

2019-04-08, 9:08 AM

I did the Andriod 9 upgrade on my G6 dual sim phone on the 6th April, and got exactly the same issue as everyone else on this forum, the update took a while, it then asked me for my 6 digit pin to enable it to boot up, this was fine, then asked for my sim card pin which was also fine, then when I tried to unlock the phone I re-entered my unlock pin and said incorrect passcode. I thought I was going insane, I tried so many times, rebooted etc, always accepted the pin to boot the phone but not unlock, I had notifications on the home screen, people could call me but I couldn't call or take photos without unlocking the phone. I've been using the same 6 digit pin for about 5 years so I know I wasn't putting the wrong code in, I eventually gave in and factory reset the phone! Very annoying, luckily it eventually re-downloaded all my apps but I have had to log into everything again, photos and contact etc all backed up too so nothing lost but very inconvient! Not sure if this is related to UK handsets? I have a UK sim and a Channel Islands sim in the phone and was in Guernsey in Channel Islands when I took the update. :smileysad:
