Pie update screwed my hotspot

I often share my internet with my sons Moto G6play when we're on the hunt for Pokemons. :-)

Today I had to learn that the pie update completely screwed my hotspot. It was set to 5 GHz only and the password was changed. Took some time to find out that the G6play cannot see 5 GHz-WLAN.

It does not seem possible to share a WLAN with both 5 GHz und 2.4 GHz.

Bug or feature?

Re: Pie update screwed my hotspot

On my Andriod One version of the X4 running pie here is how to find and modify the settings.

tap settings app to open settings

tap network & internet

tap hotspot & teathering

tap WiFi hotspot

tap Advanced to show more settings

tap AP Band

A box should pop up allowing you to tick 2.4 and/or 5Ghz, make your selections

tap APPLY

Re: Pie update screwed my hotspot

Yes, but I could not get the G6 to connect to my hotspot, when the 5 GHz WLAN was selected (both buttons selected as well as 5 GHz only).

When the 2.4 GHz is exclusively selected, it works.

Dude... Pie isn't released yet... You shouldn't have install pre released software on any phone!

Re: Pie update screwed my hotspot

Dude, the hotspot runs on my x4 with pie. :-)

I don't know why this thread was moved from the x4 forum to the g6 area...

Re: Pie update screwed my hotspot

I did a little bit of messing around with my Moto X4 running piep with another old Alcatel phone I have and a Samsung Galaxy tab.  If I check 2.4 and 5.0 in hotspot setting on the X4 it looks as if it's going to run both but then it will only put up a 5.0Ghz signal.  The Alcatel phone can only see 2.4Ghz networks.  So only my Galaxy tab could connect.

If I went back to change it only 5.0 was checked. Seems if you check both it defaults to 5.0Ghz.  If I only check 2.4 both devices could connect .

So the answer seems to be that you can only broadcast the hotspot on one band at a time.

If the G6 play only supports 2.4Ghz networks choose that for your hotspot on the G6play.
