Dual SIM + SD

2019-11-07, 14:44 PM

I currently have a moto G6 dual sim edition bought from Amazon UK where I have 2 sims + an SD card.

One SIM is my personal one, the other is work and I have circa 300GB of lossless audio on an 512GB SD.

The phone is starting to get a little 'laggy' and I'm looking to replace.

I hear mixed messages on the G8 on dual sim where comments on the Amazon.co.uk site state that the dual sim version is 2 sims or 1 sim + SD.

The moto support site suggests 2 sims + SD is possble:  https://support.motorola.com/uk/en/solution/MS145147

Which is it?

Hi mjm2705,

Thanks for posting. The Moto G8 Plus for the UK (XT2019-1) has a hybrid SIM card slot which is either 2 SIM card or 1 SIM + 1 SD card. There is no 3 slots tray for 2 SIM card + SD card. We have currently reported the FAQ that you posted and is currently being fixed.

Best regards,
Zeke

That's a disappointment, time to research other options.

Thanks for responding.

Backup all you important data e.g Contacts/SMS if required etc and do a Factory Reset.I do one a couple of times a year like a 10,000 mile service for my Android phones, especially if the operating system or a security update has happened. On some Android phones old data from the previous O/S doesn't get deleted as it should.By doing this it keeps my Android phones lag-free and slick :)

Yeah, might try a factory reset to try and breathe some life into the G6 while I try and find another handset with dual SIM + SD ...

Really disappointed with Motorola / Lenovo on this one though!

Fully agree this is a dissapointing move on Motorolas part. I have the same requirement as you, FLAC files 300GB and two SIMs for work and personal. It was the best feature of Moto G4+, G5S+, G6+ and G7+. Oddly they did this on the G5+ and then corrected this on the G5S. Plenty of G7+ going for good prices and will get Android 10 soon, could be a good option for you. Only complaint is slightly small battery but it's not the worst and I manage around it.

Its now May 11 2020 and your support site still shows a picture with 2 sims and an SD card as being possible despite you being made aware of this in December 2018.

Are you aware that it is against the law to provide incorrect details to your customers?

As I happen to be a subscriber of Which? magazine I will be providing them with a link to your inaccurate and unscrupulous web documentation so that they can advise

their membership that your Uk support site is, at best, unreliable. I was on the point of buying this model and only found this discussion by chance as the technical specs

didn't make it clear that it was 2 sims or 1 sim + 1 sd card and, having found https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Moto-G8-Plus/Dual-SIM-SD/m-p/4567870 which clearly

shows a picture with a 3 card carrier holding 2 SIMS and an SD card I was that much closer to buying it. It was a close call for me but I suspect many others

might fall into this trap.
