Mogo g8 plus, wifi(5hgz) + Bluetooth headphones. Great drop in wifi speed and ping jumps.

2020-01-28, 20:56 PM

Great drop in wifi speed and ping jumps (5ghz) When using wifi + Bluetooth redmi airdots.
As soon as I turn off the bluetooth, the problem with wifi disappears. Strange usually this is observed on 2.4ghz + bluetooth.

What data throughput are you measuring on the 5 GHz WiFi radio channel?

What are the normal and extended "ping jump" times to your target web site?

Usually these problems exist on the wired internet connection itself, so:

What mfr/model home WiFi router does your phone connect to?

Have you run trace route to the target destination?

Do you have the same issues with that site while using a laptop wired over CAT5e?

Hi dannk,

Thanks for reporting this. We'd like to further see this, can you send me a bug report, so I can share it with our engineers?

1. Go to Settings -> About Phone -> Tap on Build number 7 times on the build number to go into the developer options mode]
2. After the above steps, Developer options will be enabled.
3. Go to Settings ->Developer options -> Enable USB debugging > Toggle On
4. Enable Settings -> Developer options -> Enable Bug Report shortcut > Toggle On
5. Enable Settings -> Developer options -> Enable Wi-Fi Verbose Logging -> Toggle On ->
Enable Enable Bluetooth HCI snoop log > Toggle On -> Enable Enable Bluetooth HCI snoop log > Toggle On
6. Once the issue is reproduced, Go to Settings -> Developer options -> Click on take bug report or Press Power button and then choose Bug Report from the Power-down menu.
7. Wait for some time until the bug report is collected. It takes around 3 to 4 minutes to collect the Bug Report.
8. Then upload the BugReport to your personal Google Drive and then share the link to the bug report on the forums via a private message.
9. Provide observations of what you saw happen right before the bug report was taken. Please indicate the time that you observed the behavior in local time.

Best regards,

This and the other topic by dannk you closed are actually two different issues.

I.e. there are two separate cases:

1. As described here 5GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth headphones interfere with each other, which is actually normal for 2.4ghz (since BT also operates at 2.4GHz frequencies which are quite close to those used by 2.4GHz wi-fi), but BT shouldn't interfere with 5GHz Wi-Fi yet it does. Noticeable.

2. As described in a closed topic. https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Moto-G8-Plus/Moto-G8-Plus-problems-with-wifi-2-4hgz-maximum-speed-is-72mbps/td-p/4633797

Maximum speed for 2.4GHz is limited only to theoretical 72mbps, which gives a real speed around 50mpbs.

There are no such issues in the same environment with other phone (so there are no issues with the router or ISP)

Absolutely right noticed problems! These are 2 different problems, as well as completely different scenarios, but are connected with the wifi modem as a whole. But apparently moto support, it doesn’t understand this, maybe it counts that it is one and the same.

Hi dannk,

Thanks for your reply. I apologize for the confusion and misinterpretation, I reopened your thread. However, to answer the scenario, it's likely you'll only get the maximum 72 Mbps when on a 2.4GHz WiFi frequency. Further, there's no Moto G8 Plus in the US and some features/bands may not be supported. You can try switching to 5GHz for faster data rates but a shorter distance.

Is this technically impossible or a software limitation?

Hi dannk,

It's a limitation of the hardware. The 2.4GHz and the 5GHz bands/frequencies move/vibrate at a particular speed. Both bands have a different scale of spectrums and have sets of different interference such as electronics that uses similar radio band (commonly 2.4 GHz), physical obstacles, physical location, etc. Speed depends on those factors.

Strange, but in the 2.4GHz N protocol descriptions, the speed should reach 150mbps with a channel width of 40ghz. And here we have a maximum value of 72.
