Funny enough there appears to be nothing stating that it isn't allowed, but the question remains, is it possible? Now if you have information on this topic, remember to let us know, at least those of us that have unlocked devices. But if unlocked devices aren't getting the security patch, then who is to say that we will be getting the android 7 update? On another note, is there an update package with the security patch that we could use?

I received the May patch with an unlocked bootloader, also received Android 6.0 on a Moto G3 with an unlocked bootloader. I am pretty sure the Sept patch is just not released to all regions. I have no idea why Motorola neglects certain regions. :smileyfrustrated:

CM 14.1 is out today.  That's Android 7.1.

You'll need to stop by opengapps.org for ARM64 / 7.1 / pico GApps.

Having a modified stock and unlocked bootloader will still give you an upgrade notification. Having a modified stock with original recovery will still allow you to start the upgrade process. BUT you will get an error doing so. OTA checks for tampered file system and if it finds something different it will stop. Achieving bootloader locked and software unmodified/original/stock (not sure how it says) and status 2, will allow you go through the OTA upgrade. Bootloader menu will only say software unmodified if the file system is intact (fully stock). So, when OTA goes through the upgrade process it should not give an error as it would not find anything different.

However, if you have modified some parts of the phone, upgrade may work through USB cable and Motorola Device Manager software installed on your computer. This is what Motorola says:

- Applying an OTA upgrade patch might fail if you have modified some components of the original system software, replaced the original kernel with a rooted kernel or made other system modifications. In this case, simply reject the OTA upgrade notification and upgrade your device using a USB cable through Motorola Device Manager (MDM).  (Not available for all devices).

Just a little bit of more faith on Moto! If they gave us the option to unlock and the option to relock with recovery image, we should not think they would trick us into not having OTA upgrades.

Ugh, the translated page was horrendous..

Regardless, so why are these updates only through a Germany Moto Twitter account?  Is this where developers are based out of?

Also, if this is official, I may actually look at this with a slight "silver lining".  This would mean Nougat actually is coming out someday for the Moto X and customers can rejoice!

Not really? They confirmed that the Moto X Pure was getting Nougat back in October on their blog.

TBH, I don't know how much I trust this... It wasn't more than a few weeks ago that this same Twitter account said that Nougat would be out by the end of January for the Moto X (I think it specificied the Style at that time), then a week or later said it would be end of the first quarter for the Moto X. Not the most reliable source, official or not.
