Re: Android (7.0) Nougat Update for Moto X Pure/Style

2017-11-06, 20:32 PM

I'm on 7.0 on my MXPE, and I still enjoy the phone.  There are still some issues that haven't been resolved though.  One that annoys me is the blank Inbox notification in Moto Display.  Happens every now and then.  I've also had some display quirks (GPU driver related - one where Moto Display halved my screen resolution and others where colors are off or visual artifacting occurs), camera issues when launching from twist gesture while phone is locked, reboots when recording long 4K videos, and a couple of massive total system slowdowns (haven't had one in a while though).  There's occasional lag while typing sometimes too (mostly in webpages), where it lags behind then catches up to what you've typed all at once.

Most of these issues are rare though, so I hope 7.0 rolls out at some point, maybe a newer build than 25.11.22 that Sprint users receive.

I've been trading off between the MXPE and my new iPhone X.  I like both phones to be honest.  MXPE will remain my gaming device, while iPhone is my main phone and camera (which is really good, btw).

I have to say, I find it really weird that this is only rolling out to phones with Sprint sim cards. It's all the same update regardless of the network right? I had a first gen Moto E that I only used on WiFi as it was my backup phone. It had no sim, yet it still would get updates. Why Lenovo/Moto would hinge this update on a phone having a sim card (let alone Sprint) to begin with just doesn't make sense.

With that being said, I went to Target, and explained very nicely to the gentleman at Mobile what I needed and why I needed it. He let me have a nano SIM. I figured it wouldn't be an issue, they hate selling sprint to begin with lol. I stuck the SIM in my wife's phone, and then went to "check for updates" and sure enough, it worked! Didn't need to activate the SIM or anything. The update is downloading as I type.

Also, I've seen some other posts regarding AT&T and unlocked phones. While it's true that they do not provide technical support for unlocked phones, it is NOT true that unlocked phones don't get updates. I have the Moto Z Play, and I had the Moto MAXX before that. I've gotten updates already for both.

I will admit that I am also frustrated that Motorola has been slower with updates since being bought by Lenovo. I still remember when Motorola actually did right by the customer when the Atrix 4G was not updated to icecream sandwich and let us trade our phones back to Motorola, and get a $100 gift card when we got a new Motorola phone. I ended up getting the Atrix HD.

I mean I am a die hard Moto head, as I still think they are some of the best phones produced, but I wish the updates would be more consistant and not based on what carrier you have.

...........My discussion with AT&T corporate is that they have nothing to do with the Android 7 upgrade for the MXPE. They didn't sell the MXPE so they will only support the network, not the device. Since we bought the device on our own we can do with it and install on it whatever we want, but if anything breaks it is on us because they don't support the device with BYOD, only the network.........

You had a discussion with AT&T corporate (at AT&T corporate headquarters)?  Or, did you speak with a support rep?  Or, did you speak with a person at a local AT&T company-owned store?

I called AT&T support and got transferred several times to various support levels and teams. Then a high priority ticket had been created for my issue. Eventually I was informed by a member of an engineering team member that the MXPE is a non-AT&T device and therefor AT&T has no say in what software is loaded on the device. It is an unlocked GSM device and allowed on the AT&T network but AT&T takes no responsibility in update roll-outs to the MXPE.

Google has a fix for the KRACK Vulnerability. It is part of the November security update dated 11-6-2017. My Pixel 2 just installed it now.

This means the MXPE will have it in a month or three, right? I mean, they do need time to do their own build and testing but Lenovo/Motorola customers get quick patches, right?

Yup, that phone only had Froyo, and then Gingerbread. They decided to pull support after they already committed to it.

I know the feeling.  My Motorola Droid Maxx was promised to receive Lollipop.  Motorola pinkyswore and said it would be updated soon around January 2015.  Then pulled the rug out from under us and offered us a discount to the Droid Turbo 2.

Already impressed with my girlfriend's 2013 Moto X, I resolved instead to see if a new Moto X would be released in 2015, which is how I came to owning my MXPE.

And thanks to the lack of communication and super slow updates only so far arriving IF I use a Sprint sim card, I am now loving my Pixel 2 XL on Android 8.1 beta.  :D

Just popping in to assuage the masses. The time is past. Your OTA moment is fleeting.

Thanks to the good folks at XDA, this PICTURE, mods I'm talking to you, shows that all

that is queried for an update to the XT1575 is what you see here.

The only variable is your serial#, and IDK if it is the Sim serial or your phone serial.

But, if it were the sim serial, the OTA could be isolated to Sprint users.

You can draw your own conclusions, but to that I give you this, the #1 thread on this Lenovo forum.

There was enough info in the picture to get to the webpage easily, so I deleted it.  Sorry...
