Re: Android (7.0) Nougat Update for Moto X Pure/Style

From a cursory review, it is looking like
NPH25.200-22 is CDMA
&
NPH25.200-23 is GSM

?

While Verizon and Sprint both use CDMA, they use different versions of CDMA. Each uses different protocols for tower and radio handoffs. AT&T uses GSM, which is a world wide standard. That is the main reason that people from other countries can come here and use there phones on AT&T.

I was really surprised when AT&T wasn't the first to rollout in the US since the MotoX Style had cleared GSM acceptance in mid summer.

Re: Android (7.0) Nougat Update for Moto X Pure/Style

2017-11-22, 11:35 AM

Finally received the Nougat 7.0 update yesterday, but at this point the update is irrelevant for me. Already shopping for another phone.

As a first time Android user my experience is a mixed bag.

The Good: price, screen size, sound, moto maker, short learning curve (iOS to Android)

The Bad: battery life (always carrying a charger, phone charger (already using one from a third party after two malfunctioning Motorola chargers)

The Ugly: Bluetooth is an infuriating mess, no timely software updates from Motorola, group messages are a hit or miss

The new Motorola's phone lineup have a few appealing models, but the lack of update support demonstrated by Motorola make them "no buy" items for me.

You are right about the Moto X Pure having a poor battery life. I am getting 3.5 hours screen time over 1 day on 1 charge which is still better than my iPhone 6 and iPhone SE. Motorola's other phones do better with battery life. With my Moto Z Play, I get 9-10 hours screen time over 3 days on 1 charge. It is the battery king! With the thin profile Moto battery mod, I get 5 days!

Bluetooth issues? I have never had problems with Bluetooth. I got a couple Sony Bluetooth speakers, Motorola Bluetooth headphones and Jaybird x3. No issues.

As for the updates, the Moto X Pure came with lollipop-->marshmallow-->nougat. Even Samsung is slow with the 2nd upgrade operating system. With my Moto Z Play, I got a million updates. I think the Moto X Pure got the slow Nougat update because it was made from Motorola. The other later phones were made by Motorola/Lenova so they are getting much quicker and more often updates.

Absolutely - I'm 100% in agreement that this update cycle has been a ton slower and less organized than it should have been, and I suspect the longterm Moto employees share that frustration.  But we DO need to keep in mind those two points you make - first, that Lenovo didn't have the incentive to devote a ton of payroll to rapidly upgrading a phone they didn't originally sell.  No, it isn't "right," but it's a reality of business.  Second, this IS the second version upgrade for a 2015 phone that while it's still got a lot of life left in the design, it's toward the "back of the line" behind two years of newer models whose owners would have even more right to be peeved over a delayed upgrade than we do.

I needed to send my MXPE in for repair/replacement, and I've been almost amazed at the number of updates the Z2 Play I bought as a tide-me-over has gotten.  The November Security update hit my phone yesterday, and it hasn't fallen a month behind since I activated it.   I hope that's a harbinger of things to come - so far, I'm impressed.

Hi,

I just got 7.0 on my phone (Verizon Via Selectel).  I've had a few problems:

1)  Usually bad braking up cell phone calls.

Solution: Settings, Apps, Phone, Storage, Clear Data (does that cover, Clear Cache too?).

PS. I cleared the Cache via the power off, and Volume, mode first.

De: I called Moto support.

I made few test calls, so far its not come back...

2)  Screen shrunk and turned gray, with line vertical, and a smeared look.

Power cycled phone.  So far problems has not returned...

3)  Really wanted WiFi calling.  Still missing...

My main Lenovo Stuff:
T500, 2.8GHz, Win7 Pro, 8GB 10600 RAM, EVO-850-250GB SSD
XT1575 Motorola Android phone
My older laptop, T60p, 2.33GHz, XP, 4GB RAM, WD Black 500GB

From what I see on here, T-Moble/AT&T(GSM) is 23 and Sprint/Verizon(CDMA) is 22

It is a generic build as the mods have posted and CDMA is CDMA and GSM is GSM.

Not too hard to draw the conclusion that is how this update was rolleed out, do you see any other buld versions? I would bet US Cellular is 22

I do not recognize any differeces between the two builds on our phones.

My brother's MXPE finally received 7.0.  25.11.23 on Verizon, same as mine on T-Mobile.
