Lucky S6 users! Samsung is going to provide Oreo update for 2015 flagship phone owners.

Just remember that they paid twice as much as you did...

So you think, this justifies their aweful support with all the delayed updates (almost 1 ½ year. I wouldn't mind this if they did not make that faster software updates promise on their X pure/style website), faulty hardware(screen issues, etc) to  moto x style users? When defects like these pop up with so many users with same issues, then their quality control should be a lot worst. May be because we paid half as to Samsung's flagship?

Then I wonder why did they left out Moto X style users without simple VoLTE patch while they have provided it to a more cheaper Moto X Play?

PS.

As they paid twice as much, they also get a faster or more powerful octa core processor, LPDDR4 memory, Amoled display and overall a faster and smoother device than X Pure/Style.

So from what I gathered from skimming this thread my chances of getting the update is basically zero.  I've been waiting a while for it.  Should I just move onto another phone at this point?

It's great that a brand is extending O/S updates out an extra year for one of their phones - so, I'm happy for Samsung users.  The "deal" we Android users get when we buy a new phone is customarily two version upgrades ... 18 months to two years of full support.  If someone chooses to extend that, let's hope it's successful and  incentivizes the other OEM's to follow suite to stay competitive.

That said, I've never been really excited about the possibility of a third version upgrade - any device approaching three years old is getting real close to end of support, the user base for the device is by definition getting smaller, and driver support from the chip manufacturers begins drying up - even when it's another division of the same blanket company.

I get it bro. What I really meant was, motorola has provided the recent nougat update so late and that too after almost a year without any security updates. So, when many users received the nougat update the device has already reaching its end of life when we have just started getting a taste of nougat. Atleast a Volte patch??

So, was just hoping that motorola would do something reasonable to make us forget that bad experience, though I know they wouldn't. But still can't stop myself from expressing my feelings after my experience with them.

It was personal to me man I'm a motorola fan since the razer, defy, the atrix 2, moto g 1st gen, moto x 2nd gen and then this x style which will be my last as there is no more motoriola and no same people. I have recommended a lot of users(my friends) to go for this device and no one was happy with this device. In fact, I'm the only one still hanging around with it which explains why I feel this way.

I respect your point of view - Moto's been snakebit twice on version upgrades in the "X" series.   The first one took a long time to get its upgrade to Marshmallow, too.  Sometimes, it's the chip manufacturers and drivers, sometimes it's interactions with the extra add-one features.  What took so long to get Android 7 onto the MXPE will never be made public. but they obviously started workiing on it in a timely fashion.  The topic's been beat to death, but most of us seem to agree that the company would be well-served by a little more transparency when that stuff happens.

I gave up on Motorola.. I have never owned anything else going back to the 90s with a Motorola bag phone.. Rocking the Google Pixel 2 XL since last Saturday and it's how Android should be and it's great to know I will get Updates for at least 3 years! ?

Everyone should be happy with their purchase decision, and I'm glad you are.  For me, that third version upgrade doesn't add much value since I tend to update my phone every two years, although I'm glad to see it becoming more common.

Google's interpretation of how a phone "should" be is certainly nice.  So far, Motorola's interpretation through the Z2 model I picked up has been positive for me, and if I can get my wife to let go of her precious 2014 X, my MXPE is heading for a very useful second life in the hands of a user who DETESTS updates and just wants her phone to work the same way every time she opens the screen.
