Re: Choppy call audio after MM upgrade w/VoLTELenovo

I remember hearing that on my moto x pure edition too and someone told me to turn off the enhanced 4 g LTE mode under cellular networks. It worked for me. I have T-Mobile.

Old thread or not, i find it rather worrisome that this problem would exist for so long without something being done to address it.

I just bought the moto x and immediately noticed the choppy calls. It is almost 2017. Even if it only happens on some carriers, t-mobile/metro are large enough to warrant some type of action or corrective measure. People have been talking about this for nearly a year.

"Turn off VoLTE" and "keep the phone slightly away from your ear to keep the screen lit" just aren't cutting it for me.

I gave up a long time ago. Lenovo has lost all of my large family's business. We have moved to Huawei. The Honor 8 is an awesome device. VoLTE calls on T-Mobile are great. The device is fast. It gets updates quickly. Battery life is excellent. Price is right too. Also Huawei support is top notch.

Ha, same here. I moved on to a Nexus 5x. I'll replace my wife's and her parents phones with something besides Moto when the time comes too. The old Moto is truly dead, I am not a fan of Lenovo-Moto. Moving on...

Same here. Got a refund and moved on to Huawei (by way of the Nexus 6P. Works great in every respect, with great support. Why pay for something that doesn't work, made by people who seem to not care, and who don't support their product? Unless you have too much money, and it doesn't matter, why not insist on getting what you pay for? You should not have to rely on "workarounds" that involve disabling a feature that you paid for!

I was also affected by this on an Moto x pure edition with T-Mobile.

I just wanted to share that it's specific to Motorola MXPE. I now have moved to a Moto Z play and this problem does not exist. VoLTE works perfectly there with T-Mobile. Battery and performance are amazing on Moto Z Play. So although Moto has done a disservice to the community letting this issue fuin experience for a lot of folks, I think they still make great devices.

You win some, you lose some.

Something 6P owners should be wary about: http://www.androidpolice.com/2016/12/20/some-nexus-6ps-have-developed-a-battery-early-shutoff-problem-and-its-becoming-a-safety-issue/

Interestingly, I haven't experienced the choppiness much, but my mom's iPhone 5S started acting up on T-Mobile lately.  Similar issue - voice choppiness to the point where she couldn't understand the other person.

Quite a while back I posted about having success installing a custom rom however didn't want to post any details as I'd only recently tried it and frankly don't talk on the phone much so it took quite a while to test different things.  However I have found a way to eliminate the choppiness.  I found the instructions buried in a thread on xda, they are not mine but I can't remember where I found them.  It involves altering the build.prop  If you don't know what that is ignore this entire post.

<Post Edited> - sorry root discussions and how to do things requiring root, custom recovery, and other similar mods are not allowed - see forum rules - AlphaDog </Post Edited>

What's more interesting to me is that those are all Qualcomm specific settings/flags.

True tho it may not actually be the problem.  Since it doesn't work on all Roms it's possible the settings compensate for the actual problem.  I also remember reading a post over on XDA that claimed the culprit is the mics during calls are reversed.  I was never able to test the claim as I could never find the file he said needed to be changed.
