Re: Choppy call audio after MM upgrade w/VoLTE

2016-12-21, 23:00 PM

Disabling enhanced 4GLTE is not a solution!!!

I have a same problem with choppy calls (SE Washington State), desabled 4GLTE mode and, guess what, I suddenly lost ability to make or receive calls at work, though at home it works fine! I guess no 3G coverage at work, only LTE.

I bought this phone a couple weeks ago because specs are great for the price, BUT If I can not use it for its primamry purpose - making calls, I am returning it. Also, after reading all these comments, I realized that Lenovo/Motorolla are aware of this problem for some time now, but it looks like they didn't offer (didn't care to offer) any solution for motox customers. My first and probably my last Moto phone, way to impress new customers Lenovo!

I understand that the mods have to do their jobs. Unfortunately for us it seems Moto is not doing their job to fix an issue it clearly knows about. They could have pushed a fix with the September security update but chose not to (assuming they know the issue). And a simple google search is not going to get you the workaround I previously posted. For those of you out of warranty (and by now lots of you are) and comfortable with rooting go to xda, there's new thread over there to talk about this. Please leave this post up for those searching for answers!

would you recommend returning the phone while I still can?

If that's an option, I definitely would.  It's almost the end of 2016, not android 7.x update either.  If an update should appear, you can always repurchase the phone.  If anything, prices on it will drop as it will be (and already is) considered outdated tech.

edit: corrected year.

Thanks for the reply. I do not really care if it has 7.0 or not (based on what I read it should get one in a month or so), my concern is with the primary purpose of the phone - making phone calls, or should I say lack of it. I really like the phone, specs are even better than this year's G4plus, voLTE is my only concern (along with apparently horrible Lenovo/Moto customer service) and I think I have read enough to convince myself to return it. Thanks for your time.

BTW, I believe you meant end of 2016.

We are working on a possible fix on XDA forum. The thread is titled "MXPE owners on T-Mobile... choppy audio on volte calls?". This is a non-root attempt so it should be safe for warranty.

Mods if any of this post is not allowed, please edit.

The non-root solutions being discussed are to have another app force the CPU active with a wake-lock or activity.  It seems that these apps already exist in PlayStore to keep the CPU active for other apps that don't create a proper background task.

It's worth a try.  VoLTE is an unstable feature so just about any change, even if it's not a direct fix, can fix it for some people.  (As far as I know, there's no 100% fix even with root.)

Good news is nougat is coming sooner rather than later.  The device has been spotted running 7.1.1

I wondered if this was someone with the beta, or a test by Motorola, where the benchmark was run under a non-production device and results were subsequently posted.

I mean, either way, it's a positive, I guess.
