Re: Choppy call audio after MM upgrade w/VoLTE

2016-12-26, 5:38 AM

Considering the Bluetooth issues in 7.0, it's probably best to move to 7.1.1 and end there.  Granted, any non-Google 7.0 can have its own separate patches for its own hardware, but Moto seems to stick to AOSP releases/builds.  So, if BT is broken because of Google, you usually need a new Android version to fix it, as opposed to a hardware driver bug that can be patched during compiling.

Fixed VoLTE/T-Mo is expected, while better camera features (Professional mode) and maybe Wifi calling are hopefully implemented.  Though I do have a Google Voice number that forwards calls to my cell number, and I can receive calls via Wifi only.

Re: Choppy call audio after MM upgrade w/VoLTE

I have found a fix for the VoLTE choppy call issue. It has been tested for 3 weeks in many areas with heavy congestion. Root is not required. The fix is a wake-lock script that runs only when in call.

On XDA forum search for "MXPE owners on T-mobile... choppy audio on volte calls?".  The fix is in post #8.

While I think this is great news, this is still a workaround, not a fix.

Any chance of replicating in Tasker?

Maybe. But I don't own Tasker. I used Automate because it is a free app.

I'd donate it to you if you could get it working.  I've used Tasker for years and don't want to add another app to my phone.

I don't think any of that is necessary any more.  I've been examining the Sept. security patch logcats (on Dec. now), and the VoLTE call verbose outputs on T-Mobile are more like the Nexus 6, so it's been completely overhauled or is a direct port of the Nexus 6 (as a stopgap until 7.x).

Low-latency audio playback has also been enabled in-call, but not system-wide.  I'm having trouble reproducing the choppiness now.  ACDB-loader is being used and is loading the correct calibration files for the XT157x.

jason_motox,

Does this mean that a Moto X Pure with stock OS updated to at least Sept or later security patch should have the VoLTE call choppiness on T-Mobile resolved?

TIA...

My stock phone says it's up to date, but is running the May 2016 security patch :(

That's the point.  Nobody that I know has an update past May 16 2016.

Everybody on Tmobile should have returned their phones.

I think my old Motorola brick got more updates than this phone.
