Internal Storage Disappearing

2018-02-26, 22:53 PM

(Big Moto fan - owned every G and several Xs.)

I currently have an XT 1575 with Android 7.0 and my internal storage is disappearing.  On a 16GB device, Storage Settings reports 8.94GB used of 9.61GB.  Yet all apps, images, other, etc. total only 3.4 GB.  So about 5.5 GB is "missing."

I am an Android developer and as such install/uninstall a lot of apps, but I leave VERY LITTLE installed on this phone.  However, I do push new versions of our own app to the phone using ADB INSTALL.  Each version I push has a new filename:  V001.apk, V002.apk, etc.   It "feels" like I'm loosing space with each push, but have not verified that.   Is it possible that all the old .APKs are not removed when doing an Uninstall from the launcher?  Are they still sitting in protected memory somewhere?  I can't find any trace of them without root access.

I've tried all the basics - wipe partition, look for multiple .OBBs, etc, etc.  I have not tried a factory reset.

Thanks for any advice here...

Any suggestions?

Hi MatthewHarmon

Storage is only showing what is "usable" storage. The missing storage can be found under Others when you go to Moto File Manager. You can reset your device and you can notice that "others" would be wiped out.

Hi Ella:

Thanks much.  I did try a factory reset and it did, indeed, give me back that NAND space.

But can you tell me what is going in "Other."  I removed every app, photo, video, etc and I still have 5GB of mysterious data that I could not remove.  Are old .APKs kept around behind the scenes?
