Lenovo/Moto no longer replacing Moto x Pure

2018-02-17, 0:13 AM

I was told I could send my device in for out of warranty repair for $125 a few days ago - I sent my device in only to be told an hour ago that the device would be sent back to me because *they are no longer manufacturing it*.

Any support they put me through was less than helpful - everyone just repeated the same prompt.

Just wanted to give everyone else a head's up that this is going on, I am not pleased that I went through the process of factory resetting my phone, finding a replacement phone, and then sending the phone off - Customer Support told me "you can send it in any packaging, it doesn't matter, the phone will be disposed of and replaced" and even though I sent it in bubble wrap and such I hope it gets returned without any cracks!

I had sent it in becasue of a faulty charging port :(

I should have specified! They are sending it back unrepaired, in its original state.

Ok, did they say why? You mentioned in your OP that you were sending it in for repair, but then that they weren't replacing it.

I was told that "they were no longer manufacturing the device".  They wouldnt give me anymore information.  I assume this means they are no longer manufacturing the moto x pure in general?

I have been using repair and replace synonymously- ive never had Moto actually repair my device, they usually just do a trade in for a new one.

At $125 for an older model phone, you would be better replacing it, getting a brand new phone with a new one year warranty, and modern specs.

As I write this, the Moto Z2 Play is on sale in the US for only $349 direct from motorola.com, and has been a great phone for me after I replaced my Moto X Pure 2015. Battery life is MUCH better than the Moto X 2015 edition.

I've seen the Moto G5 Plus for under $180 at Costco.com just this week. I imagine that price will not last long. They also have some at the warehouse locations.

I'd take that $125, and apply it to a new model Moto phone.

Are they really not replacing/repairing Moto X Pure any more?  I just got an RMA for an advance exchange of my Moto X Pure with a cracked screen.  If they're not going to fix it, I'd rather know sooner than later.

They are still going back and forth.  At first it was no replacement - now they said that they can't ship the broken device back (it was "palletized" ... Which I didn't know was a thing) so I would get a 14 day old device instead and have my warranty fee refunded for 25%. Then this morning they called and said I would get a Moto z2 Play because they "where no longer manufacturing my device (again)" and also they would have my warranty fee refunded, due to inconvenience.

So who knows! I really just want to get *any* working phone back at this point.  Maybe you'll get lucky and get the Z2 upgrade? Cross your fingers!  Just make sure you have a working burner phone for the intermin.

Thanks for the update.  I'm glad they're finally sending you a phone, a week's a long time to wait.  Hopefully I find out what they're doing before the x4 goes off sale.
