MXP is going to sleep while on a phone calls > a minute or two?

2016-07-05, 12:08 PM

I posted before about the screen not coming back on while I'm on a phone call and remove the phone from my ear. It isn't because I'm hitting the power button. I'm not sure why it does it, but I've learned to live with it. Somewhat.

What I've now noticed, is that if my call extends beyond a couple minutes, the phone appears to go to sleep (or at least make the call window not the topmost app window) and nobody can hear me. It's not on mute -- there is no indication it's on mute --  callers can finally hear me when I turn on the screen, pull down the notification shade, and "return" to the call (i.e. make it the topmost app). It makes me want to throw the phone at the wall.

I've never had this issue with any other Moto phone.

Do you have a case or screen protector? Have you tested in safe mode?

I have both a case and a screen protector.

Have not tested in safe mode.

This is my umpteenth Moto phone. First time I've ever had this problem. Same apps as previous X's I've owned. My husband has the same issue with his phone. We both have the Jonathan Adler editions, though.

I've also noticed that if a call goes more than a few minutes, people don't hear me anymore unless I unlock the phone (because the screen has gone dark) and make the phone call active again. Usually by the time I've done that, the caller has hung up and called me back.

This is just marginally frustrating as I don't make that many calls, but the common ones (my mom and my daughter) do tend to run long enough that this issues occurs almost every time.

Who is your carrier? if Tmo or Verizon, try turning off advanced calling - VoLTE

I already did that. I think it might have helped prevent the call from "sleeping" after certain period of time.

The proximity sensor/screen still behaves oddly (e.g. when I take the phone away from my face, it doesn't turn on -- sometimes it doesn't turn off after I put it back to head to listen/talk). I may try taking the cover off during the next phone call and see if that helps at all.

Did you ever test safe mode?

Some users did report apps that affected proximity sensors in this way, but i don't remember which apps.
