Re: Nougat for MXPE in the USA....when?

2017-02-17, 14:27 PM

I think because it was unlocked, that we hoped updates would of been more timely.

Like anyone who takes the time to post here, I want the latest and greatest. If we get the update by May, I'll only be using Nougat on the MXP for a couple months before I get my next phone. Yeah, kinda sucks but my next phone will still be on Nougat, and probably for a while as well before it sees Oreo.

Sometimes the newest isn't the best though, had to roll my OG Nexus 7 back to 4.4.4 to make it usable. And its only mounted to my wall as a smarthub interface.

Yes, by May many of us MAY (see what I did there?) be looking for a new device.

Still no excuse for a very slow update schedule for a phone that was "sold" and advertised using words like:

Pure Android

Stock

like Nexus

and Latest updates

etc...

It's a case of never being able to please everyone ... ever.

If the update was released last December, but broke features, there'd be endless complaints and threats of litigation.

The way Android is built and updated is broken, for manufacturers especially, and with Google as a competitor now, that will just drive more people into the Pixel brand who look for guaranteed updates in a timely fashion.  Just don't expect it to be perfect, as there are always issues.

This is NOT about bleing able to please "everyone". This is about following through on promises made to the customer. The WHOLE POINT of the MXPE was that it was nearly a stock android ROM and therefore it would be quickly updated. Why is that Cyanogenmod can go tango uniform then be reborn as LineageOS and have DOZENS of different brand and model phones up an running on Nougat 7.1.1?? I have it running on a Moto E (2nd), Nexus 5, Nexus 4, etc...all work great as daily drivers too and these are just nightly builds.

All that and Lenovo can't even get one of their major products up to 7.0. Hell, we're still on 6.0 (not even 6.x). This is just a case of how a company sucks at its job, plain and simple. It's either that or they have consciously made a decision to backbench the MXPE. They must have just one guy who was previously working in the marketing department doing programming...lol

At the end of the day, yes it is about pleasing people.  Updates appease customers' rampant need for everything new, RIGHT NOW!

ROMs aren't always stable, and something is always broken.  Been there, done that.

@jason_motox- Well if you want to break it down to the lowest common denominator, then WHOLE REASON why Lenovo (or any company) exists is to please customers. So how does this change the fact that Lenovo has a faulty product out there and they're taking their SWEET TIME fixing it? This phone wasn't free. If Lenovo wants to refund me the entire amount I paid for the phone, then they can never release Nougat as far as I'm concerned. I won't even charge them for the many hours I spent trying to get this phone to work the way it's supposed to. Waiting a YEAR after the release of the OS to have it on a phone that's supposed to updated nearly as quickly has the "native" phones (Nexus, Pixel, etc.) isn't "RIGHT NOW". Stop trying to put any sort of blame on consumers who WANT A WORKING PRODUCT THE WAY IT WAS PROMISED WHEN THEY PAID FOR IT. If Lenovo said "Even though we run a near stock ROM, we may or may not update it when and if we feel like", then that would have changed the minds of A LOT of customers. They lied to sell product, period. The whole reason why avoid Samsung is because of the lack of updates (and that terrible TouchWiz garbage).

It is fairly simple to understand. We are entering the time when new phones are being announced. They certainly would prefer us to buy a new model over keeping the MXPE. If they can help us make that decision by not being prompt with Nougat then it will work to their favor.  I for one will be buying a new model. But it will be from Google.

Exactly. My next phone will NOT be a Lenovo/Moto product. It's a shame that such an inept company like Lenovo took over Motorola.

I highly doubt people are going to want to upgrade to a newer Lenovo/Moto when, as existing owners, we're treated like this. LIke you, I'd rather take my chances elsewhere. At this point, I just want a refund and end any ties to Lenovo/Moto.
