Moto X4 Screen is black and won't wake up

2018-03-28, 17:20 PM

I have a Moto X4. the screen went black and won't wake up. I've tried to reboot, and reboot in safe mode. In all cases the screen won't turn back on. I can feel haptic response from teh fingerprint reader but the screen won't wake. What do I need to do?

Hi CGates36,

You might have done this but in the unlikely event that your device becomes unresponsive, frozen, blank or black screen, or will not respond to the power button, you can perform a force restart on the device by pressing and holding the Power button for 10 - 20 seconds. The device will restart and go through the boot-up sequence.

If the issue persists, please test to see if you can go to the Recovery menu. With the phone powered off, press and hold the Volume Down button and the Power button at the same time until the device turns on. If you are able to boot into Recovery mode, please try restarting the device from there.

Regards,

JM

Thanks. I have tried both and the screen will still not come on. I've had the phone for less than a month.

This is really unfortunate. If you are still within the return period, I would suggest processing a return/exchange from your point of purchase. If it's already beyond the return period, then, service/replacement is your next option.

If the software ways can not solved the problem, try changing a new screen, the hardware solution. Here is a  blog of moto x4 screen replacement, you can get more details.

Parts of the phone are not available for purchase to end users since they are not considered consumer replaceable pieces. While not denying your technical skills for repairing the phone yourself, it is Motorola's policy to provide with the material for repairing our phones only to technicians that are affiliated with Motorola and have clearance with our engineering group. There are aspects of repairs that require special training and/or tools in order to assure proper performance. Performing your own repair could possibly cause the phone to work below the standards which are required. Please keep in mind, follow links at your own risk.

Yes, you're right. First ask the Motorola official technics for help, make sure which causes the screen issue, and then to think about the solution. Sometimes methods on the internet are just for a reference.

There's a similar thread that might help you:

https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Moto-X4/Moto-x4-won-t-power-up/m-p/4612889/highlight/false#M9830

It didn't help me or several of the others that went there and tried the support staff ideas, but it might help you.

Had the same issue only no haptic, no LED indicating charging.  Cause in my case was the update - bricked the phone.

Makes sense.

Moto makes more money that way.  Cost of repair of the Moto X4 (standard) is $229.  Cost of the same phone on Amazon today?

$159 - and falling.  I'm presuming this product's precipitous price plummet parallels the military saying:

Poor planning produces piss poor performance.
