To be honest, I never have gone back to stock ROM with my X4. You should ask this question at forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x4/help

Don't make excuses.  Your products are terrible.  I have two Moto x4's, one has normal sound, the other is extremely low.  Tell me how to fix this, or admit you can't.

Sadly they'll never admit it nor fix it to avoid the PR nightmares instead of owning up to the issues that could happen and fix it swiftly. That smeems to be the way they operate. That's unfortunate because I've had motorola's for a long time (the 1st gen X lasted me 5 years although I had to fix some hardware and replace a battey myself). I really like this phone so far, but this issue is really something that must be fixed. Perhaps they'll consider to add real speakers in the design of the next iteration of the X because as it is it's truly a huge issue because we all need to hear the phone when it rings for calls or messages. In addition to that, audio must be audible when displaying a video or a recording. It's a question of usability and user experience in dire need to be resolved. But I am not too hopeful given the repeated brush-offs. When mine starts doing that I turn on and off the bluetooth and then restart the device. Usually that has made the volumes returned to (barely) usable levels, but I too could still use a fix to have a "standard" loud level when set at max. Best of luck to us all :)

I have found a workaround for the low volume on YouTube, web content, apps, media player by using an app called Volume Booster GOODEV which actually works although one needs to manually enable it at times BUT the sound management vis-a-vis the device like Ringtone, SMS, etc volume is just low - miss almost all calls, incoming sms notifications when I am on the "High Volume" Profile outside. Sadly, thats just the way it is with the Moto X4 now.

Re: Low Speaker Volume even on 'Full Volume' setting in Moto X4

2019-08-26, 7:45 AM

Same problem, I think:    Moto X4 I bought a couple of months ago.  VERY low volume.  I'm avoiding allowing it to "upgrade" to Android Pie for other reasons.  I have another Moto X4 that DOESN'T have this problem.

I tried doing a factory reset, but this didn't fix this problem.

Since I am avoiding a upgrade to Android Pie, yet I want to have all other upgrades (like security), I want to know if this is done.

There have been reports of blown speakers when using the app Volume Booster GOODEV. I agree that is pretty disgraceful that Lenovo doesn't give a flying about this issue (hence why this motorola X4 will be my last motorola purchase sadly. I would have not minded the phone despite the many shortcomings from having to deal with the sub-par-to-average-at-best camera to the bad choice of using an hyper slipplery case material ,to the random reboots (to name a few). But having a phone that makes you lose calls, text and possibly not being reliable to use as an alarm (imagine missing a flight because of it!) it's really a bit much.

Since you (Lenovo) don't seem to be able to fix the X4 audio low-volume issue yet, I think as a necessary substitute you give people the option of reverting back to Android 7 (Nougat).   If the problem only emerged on upgrade to Oreo, then that should fix the problem at least for now, until you figure out how to fix the problem for subsequent Android releases.

If they were to do that (although the option should certainly be made available to anyone willing to downgrade), then you can rest assured that LENOVO will continue to ignore its customers and everyone will get stuck on nougat 7 forever until they'll stop making X4s and will push onto customers a different device. The X4 audio will never be fixed because Lenovo couldn't care less and has demonstrated it time and gain :(
