Oreo 8.1 update disaster on X4

2018-06-21, 5:42 AM

Just updated my phone last night. Heard the security build and new features were great additions. After reboot of phone, regret and frustration is all I've dealt with. Hope Moto can fix these issues:

1) Absolutely no notifications on screen. The quick view notifications do not appear.

2) chop chop action to turn on flashlight stopped working

3) battery is about %50 more drained compared to yesterday. Example, same time last night, %66 tonight,  %33.

4) typing in pin, big highlights on the pin pad of the pin I just typed.

Do not update to Oreo. Big mistake.

Is this an official notification from Moto? Are they aware of the issue? I've tried the typical settings and unset, set options. No luck. Any other functions completely dismantled by this update?

Hi.

We've not seen these issues reported, so no reason to think they are widespread. Sorry you are struggling.

Can you confirm that the Moto Actions you are having problems with (chop action, display) are turned on? The battery issue is less concerning if you just updated. Updates themselves take a good deal of power. Give it a few days to get back to its level.

Please update your profile with current phone, carrier and serial number -- this will help me investigate. Please make sure that the options under Settings > Motorola Privacy are on as well, and let me know (just reply here) if it's okay for me to look at your apps to see if they are a source of problems.

Need help updating your profile? See here. https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Forum-Feedback/Complete-your-forums-profile/td-p/3339943

Thanks,

- Matt

Re: Oreo 8.1 update disaster on X4

Hi, I have got a X4 XT-1900/7 in Spain.

I haven't received 8.1 Oreo update by OTA yet.

Reading this post, do I have to worry about something when receiving this update ?.

My Moto X4 works right, I have no problem.

When will I receive this 8.1 update, please?

Thanks in advance!

I suggest you read the MANY 8.1 problem postings, here in the X4 forum, before you decide to upgrade .... you may want to stay where you are until a better release is offered. The latest is not always the best...

After 24 hours, the ability to see the notifications from the lock screen came back. But one by one. First it was text messages, then 1 mail client app, with 1 account, then the 2nd account followed by the other mail client app. Then other notifications for other apps started to come through. Still hasn't fixed the chop chop to turn the flashlight on. Or the other issues.

The only issue I've had since updating to 8.1 is the battery life has become horrible. Everything else (Moto actions, notifications) hasn't been affected.

For example, usually I'm at 100% or close to 100 when I start work. Before 8.1 my Moto X4 would be be between 50 and 60 percent when I was done, 9 hours later.

Now, it's below at least 35 percent, usually below 30. I am not using my phone any way different than I was before I got 8.1. I don't want to have to bring a charger to work. The battery life was one of the things that impressed me the most about the X4.

C'mon Moto, you're better than this.

Same here - in addition to my texting issues! Aren't updates supposed to improve performance??
