Phone bricked, please help

2020-08-09, 20:57 PM

Bought a refurbished Moto X4 on eBay, regretfully didn't buy the warranty (SquareTrade was offered). One day at work, I accidentally let the battery drain all the way. No problem, so I thought. Took it home and plugged it in to charge, no LED 'charging' indicator light ever turned on. Okay.

So I plugged it into my PC, it makes the "USB device connected" sound,  nothing showing in file explorer. It does show up in Control Panel>Devices and Printers, as well as Device Manager, as "Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 (COM4)".

Holding power + volume down never did anything. Screen doesn't turn on.

Hi qood,

I'm sorry to know about that. This should not happen. I would like to confirm, are you using the supplied charger? Have you tried leaving its charger for couple of minutes to see if the phone will charge? Is there any indicator the phone is charging? Please let me know. Thanks.

Best regards,

Yeah, this is a glitch with the motox4 software.  The phone hardbricks itself when the battery drains close to 0%.  You can flash the firmware (look up "flash firmware moto x4 google fi"), but then you lose all of your data.

I know for a fact this is a software not a hardware issue.  It has to do with the qualcom db motherboard.  It is a setting Motorola uses that causes the phones to brick and a reason why many customers will not be buying their products anymore.  I've replaced the battery and charging port, but flashing the firmware is the only thing that will fix it.
