And...it works. I am posting this from Toronto. 

 

Getting locked in after the border took a while. The reason? I was still getting a Verizon signal, 3G and even 1X!

 

Once I was far enough in, the phone registered and locked in (with Bell in this case) and the TravelPass welcome texts came in. No problem since. 

 

As I mentioned earlier, I initiated TravelPass with the Moto E5 Play last year, and it kept when moving the SIM over. I assume those not activating on a Verizon-sold phone first may still have problems.
