I'm having this same problem! I launch the camera, it is very VERY dark for a couple seconds then it goes black. The yellow focus circle remains and it looks like it dips in screen quality (more pixelated) then crashes. I can use the camera with Facebook messenger PERFECTLY. Its only the Motorola app. It's not just the thread maker, I got it too!

Hi Gubni,

We recommend trying a full factory data reset without restore. Backup your files before doing the reset so if you have important files, you won't lose them. Otherwise, there's a hardware failure on the device which needs repair. We recommend sending the phone for repair.

Moto Z2 Camera black screen/not working

2020-03-07, 7:20 AM
For the last 2 weeks or so my Moto Z2 Camera has just stopped working. When I launch the camera app it just gives me a black screen. No text or prompts or error messages. Nothing. I have already run the hardware test and both cameras work just fine. I even downloaded a third party camera app a couple of days ago and it works just fine. I think it's the Moto Camera app that is failing or something else. Kind of at a loss. Also, I have already cleared the cache and the storage for the camera app as well. I am not willing to factory reset the phone as that is not an option right now. Any and all help is much appreciated.

Re:Moto Z2 Camera black screen/not working

I've been having the same problem with my camera for this past several months. I still haven't found a solution, and it's really annoying. I've been using third-party camera apps, but I would like to be able to use the default app because I like some of the features. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I will not do a factory reset for this problem, and I've done everything else in the troubleshooting.

Thanks

I've been having the exact same issue for several months, and it's just become very irritating. I've disabled the camera app and went back to factory settings and then re-enabled the camera app and updated the software. I've gone to safe mode, I've cleared the cash and app data. The only thing I haven't done is a complete factory reset. And I won't do that because I know that camera is fine, it's just that the default app will not work. Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated. Moto Z2 Force Android 9.0

Hi Karokan,

I will be glad to help you with this.  I appreciate the troubleshooting you've tried so far. However, there's still a possibility of this having a hardware failure, I would suggest doing factory data reset without restore. Backup your important files, but we recommend not restoring them.

Settings > System > Reset Options > Factory Data Reset

Please let me know if that helps. Thanks.
