Critical Notification/Ringer Issues

2017-08-18, 22:51 PM

Couple issues with my brand new phone. First is that email notification sound does not work at ALL unless I leave it on the default. I have factory reset multiple times and the issue remains. Kind of crucial since I use this for work and need to know when emails come in.

Other issues I know were deliberate choices but are still frustrating. Escalating ringer should be a setting we can turn off, I have missed calls because of it! Again, crucial for work. Also why no led notification light? 3rd party apps don't work as a work-around.

I really wanted to love this phone but may have to go back to Samsung S8 because of these important issues. Bummer.

I have changed my sounds and they work, so you may want to test in safe mode. Is this gmail app or some other app?

As for escalating ring tone and no led - this has been a design choice of motorola for a number of years now.  They haven't changed the model and it shouldn't be a surprise (like the iphone has no led - not a surprise) .

I have to admit, i am not sure how missing the first 2 seconds of a 30 second ring tone causes a missed call but you can enable vibrate and that will alert even when ring is quiet.

Every smartphone I've ever had has been a Motorola. I just got a Moto Z Force Droid. This is the first one I've ever had with the escalating ring and I hate it. If Motorola doesn't give us the option to disable it, this will be my last Motorola phone. Everyone asks me why it takes me so long to answer my phone. I also have missed calls because of it. I tried calling my phone and you can't hear the ringtone until the 5th ring. That is unacceptable.

Exactly - it's not the first 2 seconds of the ring, it sometimes takes the entire call for it to escalate to an audible volume. Vibrate doesn't always work since it's usually in my purse because I'm either in a dress or wearing pants that don't have actual pockets. They really need to fix this or make it a setting you can change.

That's not how mine works. The first 2 seconds is very quiet and then it immediately goes to full volume. Tried with a different ringtone. Same.

What format are the files in?

Had this problem when transferring sounds from my old phone in .OGG format and I had to convert them to a different format in order to be able to use them for certain sounds in specific areas on the Z2 Force and had no issues after that.

For me, they are the stock ring tones. No downloaded ones.

The ones from my old Galaxy that were stock tones were the .OGG ones giving me problems. Haven't found where to access them without rooting on the Z2 Force to see their actual format, but maybe just try to throw an .MP3 on there and select that, and see if it works then. It's possible the internal default stock sounds/tones are in .OGG and causing this "glitch" you're experiencing.

When I first set mine up, there was just one App that wouldn't play the notification for me from .OGG that I noticed (or noticed first). I think it was either Google Calendar or just the stock Email App (Not Gmail), but try it out and see if .MP3 works. It will rule that out, if nothing else.

You would think by adding 2 secs to the beginning of a ringtone would be a work around, but the software waits to hear the sound before it begins escalating.  Very frustrating.
