Name brand is number 1 - after that fastest you can afford. But since there is no longer an internal format option, most cards, even slower ones, should be fine.

On other moto phones you could format sd card as "internal/adopted" storage.  It encrypted the sd card and extended the phone's internal storage with it.  You could move apps to it to.  It is a google feature, that requires fast cards, but also seems to kill cards. Some apps dont work well moved to it.  The card could not be moved to another phone, as it was encrypted by a key only on that phone.

The tradional format of external/portable is all that is available on the z2F. You cant move apps to sd card, but you can move sd card to another phone.

Actually it is a good thing. I lot of dead cards because they can't handle the full card encryption and constant access.

It was designed as a way to get more life out of full phone, but everyone used it as a first choice and then had a bad experience. If you reset your phone (or it fails to boot) and forget to get data off the card, it was unreadable forever - even though the card was not erased.

No other Android manufacturers enabled it (the few with SD slots); probably because they saw it doesn't work well.

Moto's support for adoptable storage was the entire reason I bought this phone. You have got to be kidding me. The Verizon manual even says the feature is available, on page 53. I literally did my research before buying and still got screwed. C'mon man, this is terrible customer UX.

Well, I bought a large card for just storing music & photos...After doing much research it's apparently best to keep it as "portable' storage anyway. Now if I could just find a decent file manager that is easy to use. Have tried a lot of them and don't like any of them.

ES File Explorer Pro (avoid the free version) is the most feature complete I've ever used. FX File Explorer is a distant 2nd. Solid Explorer and Root Explorer (which doesn't need root to work normally) are 3rd and 4th.

Motorola has a free file manager available for download too.
