Re: I cannot hear a caller and RTT appears on their phone

Hi RxNotec,

Are you using a screen protector? If so, I would recommend removing that as it might affect the proximity sensor. If your observation is correct, kindly test the proximity sensor via Moto Help app > Diagnosis > Hardware Test > Proximity Sensor. Let me know.

Best regards,

I have verified it has nothing to do with a screen protector as there is no "proximity sensor". It is just the front facing camera as that is the only triggering portion of the screen when doing a proximity test in Moto help. The screen protector I have is not impeding the camera as it does not cover it.

Re:I cannot hear a caller and RTT appears on their phone

Well, it just happened again, had to call back a client and apologize for my phone issues.

Its the bad proximity sensor + the availability to turn it on with your cheek EVEN WHEN RTT IT IS TURNED OFF IN SETTINGS. This is my second moto z and never had problems with the first.   I removed my screen protect months ago to try and correct the issue.  I downloaded a proximity sensor calibration app, seems to work for a bit, then goes back to being bad.  I have dropped numerous calls because of this.  I dont want RTT on my phone.  I want a proximity sensor that works.  This is debilitating.  Please advise.

I will also add that the phone app itself is poorly designed.  Defaults to contact list ( maybe call history, like before would be more intuitive?) finding how to access the dial pad, you have to first enter "recents". wha???   argh. Frustrated.

Finally had to get rid of my phone. Having the same problem. Apparently Motorola does not read the complaints. I thought maybe they would come out with a software update to get rid the the 3 little dots that cause this when using the phone. Go to a I phone. Solved all my problems. I will never by another motorola.

Hi rsigns, foggymoon,

I would like to help. We can still try to troubleshoot this. First, can you please test this in safe mode?

To Enable Safe Mode
1. Press and hold the Power button until Power off comes up on the screen.
2. Touch and HOLD Power off on the screen until reboot to safe mode appears.
Just turn off and on the phone to boot back to normal mode.

Observe if RTT will occur while the phone is in safe mode. We would also suggest doing full factory data reset without restoring apps/backup. Just backup important files so you won't lose them, but it is recommended not restoring them when setting up the phone.

Settings > System > Reset Options > Factory Data Reset

Hope that helps. Thanks.

Best regards,
Rich
