Incipio Car Dock

2018-08-14, 11:49 AM

I noticed that they are no longer making the Incipio car dock moto mod.  This is probably my favorite mod for this phone.  Any word on any other company or motorola creating a new car dock similar to the Incipio one?

Hi bpratt7,

Thanks for posting. Here's the link for the incipio car dock. It's currently not available right now on the website but I would suggest checking on it from time to time. I have seen similar product from other online stores, you can try checking it if you'd like.

I, too, really like my Incipio Moto Mod Car dock, once I figured out a good way to mount it in my old Saab. (I didn't want to block the vent, plus the clip was too big to fit inside my vent holes)   I'm sorry to see it discontinued.  I think it would have been a good seller if they had offered more mounting options, like a windshield, dash, and cupholder mount.  To offer it as a vent-only was a mistake, IMHO.  I'll probably buy another one off eBay for my second car, but I don't relish the process of figuring out how to make it work with ANOTHER car!  A cupholder mount would be so easy...

Hi jfran395,

Thanks for your feedback. Have you tried clipping it on the air vent?

I also really like my car dock, and I had some suction cup mounts with the correct size hole from my former droid mini and ultra, so I'm not dependent on my weak vents to hold it up. I do keep losing the vent clip, which makes me resort to something else when I travel and have a rental car.

I HAVE had a weird issue with it lately, though. If I fiddle with the phone a bit too much while connecting it... if it's not nice a straight, I come in a little too high or low... something interferes with the SIM card or something, and I lose all network for a few seconds while it resets.

Hi EFDisaster,

Thanks for posting on the thread. We don't recommend using a different car dock. If that's happening only while using the suction cup, then I would recommend using the ones only made for the phone. Let's prevent further damage to happen.

The network reset happens with the included vent clip, too, and without anything at all inserted into the ball joint on the back of the mount. The suction cup is just a piece of plastic that has a ball on the end that happens to be the same size as the one on the vent clip. I cannot fathom how what the mount is attached to could cause damage. That's like saying I should only clip it to Horizontal vents, to avoid possible damage from Vertical vents.

Anyway, the actual mount must have a too strong magnet in it or something, because I can recreate this easily. Fiddle or wave it nearly correct, and my 4G definitely drops, shows the no SIM symbol for a second, and then comes back a few seconds later.

I did try the vent, but the clip was to big to fit in the vent holes.

I just wanted to come back and update that when my little reset happens, it reboots the mobile network, bluetooth, gps... not sure if wifi gets reset, I can test when I go to my car after work.

Also, to put Rich's mind at ease, my suction cup doesn't like the cold dry air of this area, so it's now attached to the vent with the clip it came with... which is amusing, since my vents are so old and loose, it waggles left and right as I turn the vehicle... I would say that it more prone to damage now, than when I had it on my preferred mount.
