Moto Mod 5G Wireless charging?

2019-12-23, 17:07 PM

So, how does this work?   I'm trying to get it to charge on a  Qi compatible charger and it just doesn't?   Is there a trick or something extra I need to do?

The charger (Omnicharge 20-C) has Qi enabled, but once the phone with the 5G mod gets put on it, the wireless portion auto-disables for some reason.   So it 'sees' it I guess.

Verizon's site shows that this supports Qi & PMA charging, but I can't find much on Moto's site about it.

thanks

I didn't think the 5G Moto Mod had wireless charging built-in?  The only thing I have seen on the Verizon website Specs tab is:  2000mAh Battery with 10W USB-C charging.

On Verizon's site here it mentions it:  https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/knowledge-base-222140/

And when I put the phone on the charger with the mod attached, the Omnicharge Wifi charging icon goes off,  if I put the phone on it without the mod, it stays on.  So the Omnicharge sees something that it thinks is wireless charging and disabling the charger.   Weird.

I see the confusion.  The Verizon sale page doesn't mention wireless charging, only USB-C.  The page you linked does mention wireless charging, but the Learn How to charge link brings up a simulator page that only mentions USB-C charging.

Yup, plus the fact the charger goes into a weird mode when I put the mod on it.  So something was sensed, but maybe not active?

Oh well, least of my cares, would've been nice if it worked tho. :)

On a side note, I was getting 1100mbps download speeds on my Z2Force with this thing in Providence, RI the other day., and the LTE modem in the 5G mod is much newer then the one in the Z2Force, in low-signal areas I get like 1.5-2X download speeds on 4G then I do without the mod attached.

Thanks,

--Chris

Hi christr,

I apologize for the misinformation. Moto 5G Mod is NOT capable of wireless charging. Here's the only way to charge the Mod. Thanks for bringing this to our attention, we'll have someone to correct the FAQ on the Verizon website.

Best regards,

Thanks for the official response!

That's too bad,  it appears that there's actually an inductive coil in the mod, but it's just not enabled for whatever reason.   The chargers all sense something, but then autodisable during negotiation
