Moto gamepad disassembly?

2019-09-30, 6:53 AM

Hello, I'm having a problem with my gamepad.  Some how one of the analog sticks popped out while it was in my bag.  Obviously it won't go back in from the outside unless I'm just doing something wrong?  Anyways how do I disassemble it so I can put the analog stick back in?  Thanks!

I just had this problem. I'm guessing you can use a blow-dryer or a heat gun on it, and try prying on parts, but don't take my word for it, I haven't tried this yet. My stick like this.

You might be able to pry at this little hole at this part of the gamepad.

Thanks for the reply I wish I had the opportunity to use a heat gun but I'm currently deployed... It's hot enough here I could probably leave it in the sun haha.

I had the same problem. I decided it as follows: first peel off the red central plastic film. This is glued with double-sided tape to the central green board (do it carefully, double-sided tape can stretch and you have to cut off the stretched sections). Then carefully unscrew all the screws holding this green board (select the correct screwdriver, otherwise you will tear off the edges of the screws). Now disconnect the two loops under the circuit board by lifting the circuit board (foam pieces are glued on them to protect the connectors; by pulling with tweezers you will lift the connector latches). Now start to disconnect the side panel on which the joystick popped up: start doing this on the outside from the corner where there are no paired side buttons. Be careful, the latches can be easily broken. I used a plastic card, one edge of which was sharpened.

Now that you have disconnected all the latches along the outer perimeter, there will be little difficulty: there are two latches inside (in the photo I circled the latches with blue, the red arrows show which side to push the lever in - I used tweezers for this. Attention! Be careful! When disconnecting latch on the side of the cable, do not crush it by accident!)

then disconnect the three connectors (red) and unscrew the four screws (blue). Now remove the board on which the analog stick mechanism is installed and put on the properly popped off button, observing the slots. Assemble in the reverse order.

When installing a green card, there is one nuance: first, connecting a long loop (the one that comes from the ABXY buttons), and then the loop from the cross. See that the white transverse stripes on the cables enter the connector or at least reach the connectors. After assembly, do not rush to stick the red plastic back on, first cut it out of paper according to the template, put and connect your moto z, check the operation of all buttons and if everything is ok, stick the red plastic! Good luck!
