Shatter Shield cracked

2017-08-24, 19:02 PM

The lens on my camera on the back of the phone cracked.  Can I assume this is covered under the warranty?  Here is what the warranty states:

The display and embedded lens are warranted against shattering and cracking for four (4) years from the original date of purchase. This phone is not shockproof or designed to withstand all damage from dropping. All other warranty exclusions, including scratches and other cosmetic damage, intentional damage or abuse, normal wear and tear and other limitations apply; visit Motorola.com for details and warranty coverage

Pretty sure it is just the screen that is warenteed, not the camera glass.

Hi tmarvel,

The warranty only covers the screen display. If there's a crack on the camera lens, I'm afraid it's not covered under warranty (physical damage).

The "Embedded lens" as referenced in the warranty is the layer above the display, not the camera glass. I assume you cracked the camera glass, and not the actual camera lens which does the focussing.

Re: Camera lens replacement/scratched glass

cpate03,

This exact thing just happened to me. I just bought my phone and use the camera daily, I got home and opened the camera to look at pictures and noticed it was foggy. The lense is cracked as if it was hit but I also have mine in a case that should protect it. Ive been very careful and havent dropped this phone in the slightest so I am very confused how the glass broke.

I have a Moto Z2 Force

Hello JM,

I just bought a Z2 force 2 weeks ago. Today I switched backplates and as i attached a new backplate my camera lense spider webbed very badly. I havent dropped my phone and looking at it would prove that. I have a glass screen protector and have taken very good care for the short time ive had it. The phone hasnt been without a backplate or mod attached since day 1, i take alot of pictures and speficaly avoid setting the glass against anything.

PS: I've also seen other post's on this forum with short term owners noticing basically spontaneos shattering on the rear glass.

Thank you,

TylerMark

I haven't seen any posts of spontaneous cracking of camera glass, but some posts that users said they were cracked and didn't know how. I think those are different things.
