Software updates

2017-11-08, 15:02 PM

I think it is very bad that the monthly security patches are not rolled out. I have the T-Mobile variant of the Z2 Force and it is still on the August patch. I read that that Motorola is not good with the patches but still bought the phone going they would up their game. I guess the how is slowly fading and the negativity elsewhere online is being confirmed. I now doubt we would get anything toward Oreo or beyond for our supposedly "flag ship" device.

Motorola is committed to implementing essential security patches. As new security issues emerge, we will evaluate them and update your phone as needed. And no worries, Z2 Force is included on the devices that will be getting the Oreo OS upgrade and you'll be notified once it's available.

Stay tuned for updates on Motorola software upgrades here, including details on the specifics by country or carrier.

I don't want to be argumentative here, but there are 2 major security issues that have not been patched for us on the Z2 Force.

The Blueborne and KRACK

I was just about to reply with the same.

Wonder if Lenovo thinks these are not of any risk?

Funny.  My Sprint model has had August, Sept, and just yesterday, Oct patches.

That is great for you. T-Mobile however says this is Moto's issue as they push the patches. So the problem lies with Moto and is not being fixed.

I read on another thread that a rep for Lenovo said they stopped pushing to fine tune some issues. It is not a good reflexion that they are taking so long because, that statement dates back from 10 October.

I want to thank Motorola and Verizon as I just received the newer software update on my Z2 force today! This is the November Security patch with the KRACK fix under the update version number NDXS26.183-15-5. Just prior to that, the October Security patch and the BlueBorne Bluetooth vulnerability fix was completed on October 19, under version number NDXS.183-15-5. Keep up the great work!

So let's take an objective look at this.  We have confirmed that both Sprint and Verizon's models have been updated regularly.  T Mobile's has not.  And you believe T Mobile when they blame Motorola?  Why would Motorola choose to selelectivly push an update like that?  It seems to me that the far more reasonable explanation is that the updates are being delayed by T Mobile, not motorola.  I understand you disagree with that conclusion, but please explain your reasoning for doing so.

My reasoning is that a rep on this forum have confirmed that Lenovo is responsible.
