Verizon Moto Z2 Force Only Gets H+ Service (not LTE)

2020-02-29, 23:56 PM

I have an unlocked Verizon Moto Z2 Force.  I just switched over to an AT&T reseller and have found that I can only get H+ service (at best) and not LTE  no matter what APN settings I use and no matter where I am.  The reseller has tried to help me a great deal, offering suggestions, trying things on their end, etc., but nothing changes.  I've done a couple factory resets, redone the APN settings a number of times, and still have had no success.  I'll note that I always got LTE service at my home previously.  Has anyone had this problem before?  Do you think it is a defect in the phone?

Any help greatly appreciated.  I really don't want to give up this phone but H to H+ service just isn't going to work for me.

Unlocking a Verizon (carrier specific) phone does not automatically make it fully compatible with AT&T's network.  Some carrier specific models cannot be fully migrated between carriers.  The reseller should have received model compatibility information from AT&T.

Thanks.  I looked at the Moto Z2 Force bands and it works at  GSM, LTE: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 12, 13 UMTS: Band I (2100), Band II (1900), Ban IV (1700/2100), Band V (850), Band VIII (900).  AT&T uses AT&T 4G HSPA and HSPA+ use 850Mhz(Band 5) and 1900Mhz(Band 2) band.  AT&T LTE uses Band 17(700Mhz), Band 5(850Mhz), Band 2(1900Mhz), and Band 4(1700/2100Mhz)).  The phone is definitely capable.  Are you saying that through the software it makes it so that the phone won't operate even though it is capable?  What is the point of unlocking then?

Hello, while you're correct on the bands supported on the Moto Z2 Force. The bands you listed are what are supported on the Retail Unlocked version of the phone and not the Verizon variant of the phone. The Verizon variant of the Moto Z2 Force only supports LTE bands B2, B3, B4, B5, B7, & B13. If I'm not mistaken AT&T uses LTE bands B2, B4, B5, B12, B17, B30, & B66. This means the Verizon variant is missing 4 out of the 7 LTE bands that AT&T could be using. It's very likely that AT&T is using bands in your area that just aren't supported on your phone.

Thanks, Tom.  So even if the Verizon variant is unlocked I am limited to those bands and not the retail bands?

Yes, that is correct, the bands supported on the Verizon variant is a hardware difference and not software. So, even after you unlock the device it's limited by the hardware.
