VoLTE toggle is ghosted out on my XT1789-04

2019-06-21, 17:17 PM

I bought an unlocked T-Mobile Z2 Force for use with PagePlus. (aka TracFone/Verizon)

Configuring the APN, I am able to turn on the 4G data. However, voice/text does not work. When trying to active the IMEI on PagePlus's website, it tells me the phone is not VoLTE-capable. Sure enough, when dialing into the testing hash-code, the option for VoLTE under 'Phone Information' is greyed out.

VoLTE is a software feature, not hardware correct? Is there a way to turn it on? Why am I not able to add ims-connectivity via apn?

Hi hrrsnmb,

Thank you for posting. VoLTE is a is not a software or hardware feature, it is a carrier specific feature. If they mentioned that VoLTE is not available for your phone there is no way to have it activate it. It may have an option in the settings to activate the VoLTE and Wi-Fi but if the carrier cannot support then it could not be toggled on.

Best regards,

Hi Zeke, thanks the the input.

Not only does the carrier (pageplus) support it, they require it. This is why I have no voice/text, I'm not able to turn on the feature.

It's a T-Mobile branded phone - maybe they don't  support volte. But I have unlocked the phone. Shouldn't I be able to use it with the new carrier if the phone is volte-capable?

Hi hrrsnmb,

For unlocked phones that have VoLTE support, the availability would differ from carrier to carrier. It may work on a specific carrier but it may not be available for other ones even if the phone is capable of using VoLTE. Since the phone that you have purchased was not originally unlocked, it would be difficult to confirm what carrier specific features are available.

If I get the XT1789-01 (Verizon), will the VoLTE option will be available to me?

Hi hrrsnmb,

Yes, since this model is a Verizon specific device it should support VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling.
