2018-05-19, 17:15 PM
hi, after upgrading to android oreo my phone on a 12% battery, uses 7% for the standby mobile network. I have no idea how to solve, does anyone have any idea what the problem is? and how to solve.

Hello Mr_osas,

Is there a difference in the battery life from before the update? How long did your phone last from 100% to 0% before the update? How long does it last after the update?

MOTO Z2 PLAY Cell Stanby Issues

2018-05-22, 18:56 PM

Ever since I got my moto z 2 play I have had cell stanby draining my battery. I have used my phone pretty much all day and shows cell standby using 14% with everything else using close to 4%. Mobile radio active is at 1hr 37 minutes. Is anyone else having the same problems or can this be looked into? Thank you.

I think my Theorie bout WLAN+Mobile standby is true. It's showing both as one! Ive installed a other battery Manager and It's showing both using same. That's why mobile standby is always on the top. It's only why wlan and mobile arent Individually be displayed. (like on all other Moto devices). It seems its all ok with our z2play.

Re: Extreme battery drain Z2 Play

So i have this exact same issue. This is actually my second z2p and i have bought both of these through amazon and spoken to motorola tech support about both phones. I live in canada and bought them through amazon.ca and after speaking to motorola about the extreme battery drains right out of the box they essentially told me to return it to amazon and try again. Currently in the process of doing the calibration that has been recommended by tech support on this forum and I started to wonder if any mods on this forum could share the information of where the devices that have this battery issue were produced? after giving my IMEI to motorola they told me my device was produced in the Cayman Islands and so was my first one which are both dual sim phones and im wondering if the factory used to make these phones in the Cayman Islands arent just using cheap knockoff parts to save money. So im curious if all of these devices are produced in the Cayman Islands or not.

UPDATE - after the calibration, i dont wanna jinx it but it appears to have helped significantly. It hasnt dropped an unreasonable amount since the calibration this morning. I also read that turbo chargers maybe at fault for the poor battery performance as many people say that if you charge the phone not with a turbo charger it doesnt drop significantly. Plus the turbo charger if its all you use and you over charge it the battery will fail faster (long term) even if it seems okay to begin with.

I've never had this issue with two Moto Z2 Plays in the family...bought directly in the US from motorola.com. In fact, the battery life has been quite amazing. I rarely have to use my Moto Mod battery back.

Carrier is Sprint, phone bought in the US.

Phone set appropriately to best carrier settings, which are under

Settings > More > Cellular Networks > Preferred Network Type LTE (recommended)...for Sprint. Your carrier may have a different recommended preferred setting.

If the phone was bought outside of the geography of it's intended use...well....I don't know, that could be a problem if the radio(s) are not set appropriately under settings to the carrier you intend to use. GSM, CDMA, LTE...make sure it is set according to what your carrier views as best, and will result in the lowest electrical draw based on their carrier network.

When I travel out of the country, I have to change my carrier settings from LTE to Global under preferred network type.

If one switches from any flagship phone to Z2P, then he/she will not feel it as android flagship phone gets SOT of 4hrs in average. But if one switches from Z Play to Z2 Play, then it is a problem.

Even Z2 Play is a unique smart phone as it even shows wrong battery consumptions. Just take a look at message 7 of this post and anyone will laugh while doing a back calculation & cross checking battery stats.

Hi guys,

I am monitoring this thread and I would like to check if someone is still experiencing the same issue here.

Please also make sure that you have done the tips and workaround from this thread.

st an additional hour.

Here are also some great tips to extend your battery life. Again, all battery life claims are approximate and based on an average user profile that includes both usage and standby. Actual battery performance will vary and depends on many factors including signal strength, network configuration, the age of the battery, operating temperature, features selected, device settings, voice, data, and other application usage patterns.
