well, i've figured why i get very often an message about "type your password in order to enable fingerprint". it's an poor design. it detects the very fabric of your clothes as your own finger and locks himself due failed attempts. worst: after a couple of readings, it even doesn't bother about another reading attempt, it gets the failed one and tries again. and obviously, it fails again. this feels bad? "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result."

Do you mean when it's in your pocket?

yep. in my leather jacket, it's rare this happen, but in other kind of fabrics, it always happen, all that you need to do is walk a little with your phone in your pocket. if you put it in your pocket pants, then it's double trouble: it will happens when you walk or when you sit. better it in your hand? not so sure. if the sensor barelly touches any part of your skin, bye bye. in fact, if if you let your phone resting over an pillow, after some time, it's likelly that it will also happen. if you are moving close to it, be sure of it. in this situation, the result changes, if your phone screen is facing up or down

Hi Everyone,

I just have an update from the team. They recommend to forget all the fingerprints and adding them back, try without an SD Card insterted. And if the issue persists then we need to send the phone for repair. To check your warranty repair options and the contact information, kindly check the link, and select your respective country. Thanks.

Best regards,

Rich,

Thanks for replying. I'm REALLY confused - what I'm reading is that Leveno/Motorola releases a software patch that breaks the fingerprint scanner, but we have to send the phone in for a hardware fix. That seems a little out of line for any company to expect. We didn't break our phones, your company broke our phones with a required update. I like most people didn't purchase the over inflated warranty because I'm a responsible person that takes care of my electronics. Since your company broke it are they going to fix it at no charge to me? I would like to have the name and number of someone in the organization that can authorize my phone to be fixed at no cost to me.

My moto z play is having the same issue. Except mine just quit even pretending it senses it. It just stopped one day. I didn't drop it or cause any damage to the scanner.

Really sad that this post went unanswered. Motorola was a good company with a good reputation. I will NEVER buy a Motorola product ever again.

I agree... I know it's a software error. I have two of these phones. I dropped my phone off my lap and shattered the screen, the 2nd one has rarely been used and since transfer to this phone the fps worked and then just stopped.my broken screen phone I had zero issues with it. Worked amazing. So its definitely not a hardware issue, Motorola! Shame on you..
