Can't change Wifi Frequency

As the title says I am unable to set my Wifi band to 2.4 ghz or 5 ghz. I go to my wifi settings and there is no option and I'm on Android Oreo.

Re: Can't change Wifi Frequency

Hi, Hybrid7.

May I know how are you trying to select the option to change to 2.4Ghz or 5.0 Ghz? Are you going to settings > wifi > advanced settings?

Could you share us a screenshot after connecting to wifi for us further look? Also, please update your profile with IMEI for further investigation.

Thanks,

Swaraj

Re: Can't change Wifi Frequency

There is no advanced settings. In settings there's a section called Network and Internet. There's no option to choose a specific WiFi band. It keeps switching bands randomly. It says WiFi disconnected at least once every hour. I'm so done with this phone my proximity sensor keeps cutting off too.

Re: Can't change Wifi Frequency

Hi, Hybrid7

We are sorry about that, unfortunately, we do not have any option to change the same manually as it depends on the wifi router being used as the same fluctuates.

Thanks,

Swaraj

Re: Can't change Wifi Frequency

For the Verizon Moto Z2 Force they need to add a option in the WIFI settings in the next update for us to choose the WiFi band manually. It's basically stuck on automatic so if I go to a different room than my router the 5ghz will drop and it'll switch to 2.4ghz. I'm telling you it disconnects constantly and I mean at least five times a day It'll say WiFi disconnected. Playing any multiplayer games is basically impossible. I have another phone and the option is there. I can manually set it to 5ghz 2.4ghz or automatic. A $200 phone has this important setting but a $800 phone doesn't.

Sorry about my earlier response, I think we can actually change this to one frequency band. Please follow the steps and let us know how it goes?

  • Tap Settings > Wi-Fi, tap the three-dot overflow icon, then tap Advanced > Wi-Fi Frequency Band.
  • Now, pick a band: either 2.4GHz (slower, but a longer range) or 5GHz (faster, but shorter range).
  • The next time your device joins a Wi-Fi network, it’ll be using the frequency band you specified. You can check by tapping the network you’re connected to under the Wi-Fi list and looking at the Frequency setting.
  • One thing to keep in mind: Not all Wi-Fi hotspots support the 5GHz frequency band, so don’t see surprised if you see far fewer available Wi-Fi networks if you choose the 5GHz setting.
  • Note: Still not connected at the right frequency? Try “forgetting” the network you’re connected to and reconnecting.

Please let us know if this helps?

Re: Can't change Wifi Frequency

I tried to find the setting but it's not there. It shows me the frequency but it's not clickable. My build number is ODXS27 . 109-34-4. Screenshot_20180212-155440.png

Re: Can't change Wifi Frequency

I think this option was removed from Android in N AKA 7.0. I can also not do this with my Z2 as well on Oreo aka 8.0. I have used a 3rd party app to change it when I needed too. I have a Google WiFi router that does not show 2 separate SSIDs like years ago. So for me to connect smart home devices I have to use a 2.4 connection, since they don't work on the 5.0. Drove me nuts until I found that app. Let me know if you want a link to it.

Re: Can't change Wifi Frequency

I gave up and just turned the 5ghz radio off in my router.
